Alloy wheel damage

Featured Replies

In the ice on Friday I managed to scratch the outside of my front passenger side alloy wheel on a kerb after failing to make it around a right handed bend. I was wondering:

a) How much is it likely to cost to get it repaired?

B) If I don't mind the wheel remaining damaged, but don't want the alloy to corrode, what do I need to do?

Thanks guys

As a short term measure, cover the scratched area with clear nail varnish to prevent the lacquer damage creeping.

Gently file the sharp bits off and touch up the scrape with a silver paint touch up stick, you wont notice them then unless you are looking for it.

you're looking from anything between £25 and £50 a wheel. Just so you know I used Chips Away alloy wheel repairer just before Xmas when i curbed the other halfs 19" RS6 rims. Fantastic job you cannot see where I damaged it now lol

I have to say that when it comes to situations like this, I did prefer the steel wheels with really deep tyres on which blessed my SDI Fabia, :D

Thanks for everyones' help!

Wonderwheels (I think!) e-mailed me today a quote of £70 + VAT... probably not worth it!

You can get it professionally refurbed (shot blasted and powdercoated) for around £50 a wheel, personally i wouldnt bother as its only a 'scuff' and you will probaly do it again anyway....

how much is a wheel from skoda?

Hello ,My Cousin crashed his two alloys against the pavement and they were powder coated,He took them to Elder and Paton ,in Perth Scotland and they did the whole job tyre removal and new coating for two hundred.that was a good factory finnish but alot cheaper than the replacement of the wheels.before the work was done they carried out a four wheel alignmnet check and the checked the wheels werent buckled on the machine they have. They were helpful.:)

Hi

I have a kerbed alloy wheel which i have been informed is easily repairable from the road side without the wheel coming off

What would you say would be a sensible price to pay for such a service??

I have been quoted £50 cash or £65 if going through the books, does this sound reasonable

Cheers

Matt

Matt you can get a full wheel refurb for that sort of money (wheel balancing might be extra tho?)

Any repair that is done on the car is going to worse than a full refurb IMO.

Yeh i was thinking the same, thing is a full referb requires giving the wheel up for three days and running on the spare

the other option is to do a DIY job myself, but i fear this may make things worse
