Engine man light and ESP light

Featured Replies

right quick question

My engine Managment light has been on for the last week (i'm getting it sorted when i can get to garage). The car has driven fine etc.

However tonight the esp light also came on and stayed on! whats that mean then?

It had gone off when i went back to the car, but was on all the way home!

As I understand it, the traction control is sometimes limited by the ECU when an engine fault is detected... so I would guess they are linked.

It might be the ABS modual with you getting both on?

VAG-COM will find it though

Any sign of the ABS light? If so, suspect a failed alternator.

Hi there!

From what i've read, the majority of the time this is a MAF sensor, bring it to the garage and get it hooked up to vagcom.

  • 2 weeks later...

Please let me know if you find out what it is as we've had the same problem 5 times in the past year with no satisfactory answers and our engine light is on yet AGAIN!

I had my car less than a month and this happened, dealer hooked it up and discovered it was running lean so booked it in for inspection. New throttle body and 1 hose replaced and never had the problem since, all done on warranty fortunatley :)
