Really want to get a vRS but one concern...

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have been researching for quite a while into getting a new car as my company car Corsa SXI is being taken from me. I want something with performance and economy yet small-ish (have grown to like parking small cars in small spaces!) and the Fabia vRS fits the bill perfectly. I took one out for a test drive last week and was blown away by the torque....BUT i have one small niggling doubt.

I am around 6'3 with long legs so have to have the seat right back and I discovered the driverside door pillar kind of obstructs my right hand view  (in the position I had the seat in at that time). Can any other lanky buggers reassure me that you get used to this and its something you learn to live with???? Not sure whether its enough to put me off but I do high mileage with my job and would be spending a lot of time in the car.

Why cant they make the Fabia in a 3 door version!!!??? (are they going to make the new one 3 door? if so , I may have to bite the bullet and choose something else..any ideas? )

Thanks,

Matt

i can sort of relate am 6'1 my self mate and my seat is back the pillar is in the corner of my eye all the time but i have sort of got used to that just when am over taking or pullin out i always lean that extra bit forward to make sure before moving out

hope that helps

6'2 and i cant say i even notice it now, have had the car for 4 years,

I do remember moving my head from side to side when looking over corners to see past the pillar when I first got the motor but really dont notice it at all now.

Thanks Seano47 & Bigw2069. A couple more confirmations of this and I think that doubt will have gone!

Cheers guys.

I'm only just over 6 foot, but I drive with the seat rather far back and I've gotten used to it. Still a little annoying that you can't rest your elbow on the windowsill and the 'armrest' on the door seems a little too far forward. But nothing that really detracts from the appeal of the car. I just lean forward a bit more when checking behind.

i would really get one mate they are lovely cars am in my second fabia vrs and love it

I'm 6'5" as well and I've never noticed it.

If its too small then think about a 118d or a Golf Gt TDI 140 or an older Golf GTY TDI 130/150 or a Leon Cupra TDI all of these are the same purchase price 2nd hand as the vRS and most offer a lot more std kit.

vRS Fabias seem very over priced currently on A.Trader whereas the others I mention represent much better value - also Astra 1.9 CDTI is a cracking car.

At 6' 5" I suppose I could qualify as a 'lanky bugger' :D

It is something you get used too, it doesn't give me to many problems, a quick lean forwards seems to solve the problem. The one problem I do have though is headroom, I have to either slouch or recline the seat 'rude-boi' style to stop my head smacking the roof over bumps.

Also while I'm thinking of it, because of the extreme length of my........ legs (;)) the seat position (distance / angle) makes the steering a bit awkward as the column doesn't quite extend far enough for me.

As before, you get used to it and I see it as a minor inconvienience that us members of the master-race, sorry, +6'ters have to endure for being physically superior in a shortarse world*

6ft4 here and i never have a problem, you get used to looking forward at junctions.

The only think i find annoying is the seat belt doesnt touch my shoulder, as i am so far back. But i guess thats better for long journeys without the belt cutting into by shoulder. And the arm rest too, its too far forward and too low. :(:(

I'm 6'7" and the Fabia vRS is the most comfortable easy to drive car I've owned.I've never had any problems with vision at all.

Wow, so many tall Brisky regulars!

I didn't think there'd be so many around the 6'4" mark!

A short **** 6'1" and a bit here, don't even have to have the seat all the way back but even when I do ( ie no sprog in rear) then can't say I've noticed any problems. When driving the NEW Fabia however I did notice that in order to have the seat far enough back then the gear lever seemed a bit of a stretch, or else the center console was banging on my knee when the seat was further forward. :o

The only car ive ever had a problem with was an MR2 on a 54 plate .

I got in, i Shut the door, My knee was at the side of the steering wheel, got chrushed when the door shut, my knee went pop, i had alot of pain, i would never get back in another one if my life depended on it

That's another minor problem as well actually, the gearstick is a bit too far forward if you've got the seat all the way back.

Don't think I'm knocking the car, I'm not, it's great but you can tell that you're in the 95th percentile (ie outside what the designers consider the norm) :D

The only car ive ever had a problem with was an MR2 on a 54 plate .

The only car I've had a major problem with is a Perodua Nippa :Yikes: on an R plate. It was really difficult to get into 5th gear because there wasn't enough room between the gear stick and the steering wheel for my knee!
