I have had some mods to my car recently so thought I would post my thoughts on them.

1) 312mm brakes using VAG pads and discs

I can only descibe this modification as fantastic of the mods so far this in my opinion is the best. It is not that the standard brakes were bad they always stopped me well but there seemed to be a lack of coordination between how hard I pressed the pedal and how much brake was applied and it seemed very variable. The feel of the 312mm set up is great they provide greater modulation of braking and inspire more confidence. The stopping power is greatly improved the car stops a lot faster. Now driving round country roads I can get my corner entry speeds exactly what I want I don't end up over or underbraking (except when I run out of talent lol). If you do this mod good tyres are essential though.

2) JABA RARB

The famed mod that many have reviewed before so I shall not say much. Overall I am very pleased with this. It does reduce understeer and roll and provide more controlled lift of oversteer. However it did not reduce the roll quite as much as I expected she still rolls more than I would like in the bends but it seems more controlled and holds at a set point whereas previously it used to feel as if the suspension on the compressed side had collapsed under the forces of conering. Also in some circumstances like high speed straights with a bumpy surface the car feels a little more unsettled than when standard.

3) Custom Code Phase 1 generic remap

I chose this remap for many reasons: I managed to get it on a special at a good price, I didn't want a clutch killer or a broken turbo and I wanted a map that made it more like a petrol to drive. The remap was immediately noticable the car felt a lot more lively. It took a bit of getting used to being able to rev to 4-4.5K while it still pulls hard. Again overall a fantastic modification allmost as good as the brakes! The car is a lot faster especially mid-range. It is smooth and satisfying to drive, due to more power and holding it for longer driving seems to flow better, less on off and crucially more enjoyable. Its not perfect mind too much with the right foot and she breaks traction, torque steer can be worse too. Clutch can slip a tiny bit in 1st gear to. second gear feels a bit strained if climbing high up the rev counter. I have not noticed any of the dreaded DM flywheel vibration though to be fair I never dump the right foot at low revs. I have always thought the 1.9tdi in the furby growls a little on acceleration but my girlfriend always tells me this is rubbish but now it is remapped it sounds a fair bit meatier which is good that and being pushed back into the seat harder than it used to! I have decided to change oil every 5k with remap to help prolong turbo life.

For the future i hope to get springs and dampers and cupra bushes - at the moment number one on the list is KW kit (not coil over).

nice review :)
