Managed to snare a set of TT brakes from golfturbo last thursday - and look what arrived straight from Germany today!

Seem to have the hoses too which is a bonus, should they be okay to use? Haven't been able to find a can of green Hammerite yet, law of the sod.

Oh, and do I just cut off the electronic wear sensor from the pad?

Golfturbo is leg-end.

IIRC from when mine were fitted by a fellow Briskodian you just cut off the wear sensor, the hoses should be ok to use and if you can get the Hammerite in Green Spray you'll get a good finish.

I also applied a coat of Hammerite Speacial Metal Primer before the colour went on

the standard Fabia hoses will be ok to use , it saves a lot of messing about swapping stuff over with fluid dripping out

I thought these were in short supply now :)

They look great - will be ever better sprayed green.

So did I but golfturbo has two more sets up on ebay now....

Brake fluid is nasty stuff yes? What should I use to clean it off the calipers before painting?

thinners or spirit wipe , allow to dry , then redo again

seal the brake hose union hole up so no paint goes inside the caliper and stop any further fluid coming out

Mine arrive too. They turned up at work and I was getting all excited about them. Everyone though I was mad. Was funny seeing the delivery guy puffing away after bringing them up two flights of stairs (v heavy box!) until I realised that I then had to carry them back down.

Mine had the hoses too btw.

Just gotta get round to painting and fitting them.

Big  to Steve for good service and communication.

I know it has been discussed many times before but is DOT4 brake fluid still considered the best option?

Many thanks

Mark

I know lots have people have said these are easy to fit, but are they really? I have no mechanical skills, would I be better off getting them fitted by a mechanic?

Really fancy getting some in a month or so once the finances are back on track!

I helped a mate put on his set and they are fairly easy. The most important bit to get right is the bleeding of the lines. Make sure there is no air in them. Air in lines = pedal to floor + crash! If you are insure though prob be best to get a mechanic to do it. Won't take them long.

There are one or two fitting guides on here with pics that will give you all the info you need.

I've a Beetle obsessed mate with all the tools and know-how who'll help me fit them in exchange for beer, which is nice

As above, is DOT4 brake fluid good enough?

Superdot 4.1 is the fluid I had in mine, I belive dot 5 is better but needs changing more often,...............so i'm told

i just run the standard DOT4 fluid , not had any problems , ever after some heavy abuse

if you use the original pipes on the Fabia , instead of putting the longer ones on, clamp the pipe with a suitable tool , thus restricting the loss of fluid , plus it will be easier to bleed due to the fact the pipe still has fluid in

i bled my brakes on my own , fit all the parts and secure , crack off the bleed nipple, and wait until just fluid starts leaking out with no air ,tighten nipple, do the same with the other side , and the pedal should be ok , if unsure though get someone to bleed them with you

I got confused in Halfords

They had "low viscosity dot4 for ESP", "Dot4 for ABS", "Racing Dot4", "general use dot4" and "Dot 5.1"....

With four different dot4's to choose from I naturally bought the 5.1 :o

There'll be two of us so bleeding the brakes will be a doddle.

.

 i don't know why there would be a "special" fluid for a vehicle with ESP

Perhaps as it's low viscosity it allows slightly quicker reactions?
