Fabia VRs Brake travel ?

Featured Replies

Hell there folks been on the forum for a couple of months but not posted b4 !

Bought my 04 reg 27k Vrs In December and absloutely loving it ! Performance and general drivng experiance are fantastic, just waiting till the roads get a bit drier to see what the handling and grip is like compared to my other car a modified classic Mini!:)

Was wondering how people rate the brakes on the Vrs though as mine seem to have plenty of stopping power but quite a lot of travel in the pedal b4 they start to bite properly ? Any comments or advice welcome !

Thanks in advance

Bob

I've always found the brakes have very little travel before they bite firmly, but then a lot of travel to actually get them to stop effectively (I think the nose diving under braking gives the illusion of slowing down more than you are). A lot of people replace the standard 288mm discs with 312mm ones off the Octy Mk1 platform which apparently improves the feel of the brakes.

Worth checking when the brake fluid was last changed as well as it should be done every 2 years and could cause longer pedal travel.

Try bleeding the brakes. See if this improves it

If the pedal feels spongy bleed the brakes, or even better, change the entire fluid before bleeding them. It's not as convenient, but brake fluid draws in moisture over time which affects it's performance, most notably making ithe brakes fade a lot faster.

I find the brakes in vRS are the best of any car I've had on balance of stopping power and feel/travel. My A3 stopped just as well, but was over-servoed at low speeds.

As others have said, get a fluid change & bleed. It's not expensive- only 30-40 quid at a dealer, less elsewhere.
