Skoda 136

Featured Replies

well hello there this is my first post, the hole way from Northern Ireland, lol, dunno if there's many on the forum from here!

anyway

i seen a 136 rapid for sale near me, was wonderin, as i know very little about skodas, weres the main areas of bother or is there any, generally put off by the old stories about Skoda's, looks a minter and owner says she's sound as a pound underneath, Btw i take a keen interest in classix cars ownin a 93 mini sprite!

:)The youngest is now approaching 18 years old so don't expect perfection.

The Rapid tends to rust at the outer sills, rear inner sills/box sections, front and rear screen pillars, leading edge of the bonnet and rear arches. Check for water leaks on the front carpets which often is the beginning of rust problems. To be honest they can rust just about everywhere but the above points are where I'd be looking first.

Mechanically check all the usual things you would on any car. Common faults on the Rapid include head gasket issues, 2nd and 3rd gear synchro problems, noisy rear wheel bearings, non working mileometer, sticking front brake calipers.

I'm making them sound awful, but they aren't really. I've been driving them for 18 years now and wouldn't be without one. They aren't at all fast, but they are fairly nippy. You can have enormous fun in these cars without the need to go fast anyway. I should think you'll be hooked after a test drive!
