Painting new 312 brakes

Featured Replies

I bought some smooth green hammerite to paint my new 132 brakes prior to attaching them.

The surface of the castings has some sort of "passivated" anti-corrosion finish by the look of them (grey and shiney). I was wondering if the Hammerite would stick better if I primered the castings with Hammerite Special Metal primer (used for aluminium, galvanised steel and brass etc) before the adding green coat.

Would this be of any real benefit?

Would the primer withstand the heat ?

How well does the Hammerite withstand the heat anyway?

I've used the special primer before on 312's without problem.

i just cleaned them up with brake cleaner and painted worked for me.

Thanks for that info. I'll now get on with painting them with primer and hammerite.

Ive always tried to get onto that website, but cant read Czech very well to register on the forum....

Back to the topic...

I touched my standard ones up with the proper colour, and its stayed on for the moment, but ots just normal aerosol, not head resistant, so in future id use the hammerite just because it takes a higher heat....
