Ambiente SE bhp question

Featured Replies

Good afternoon. Potential newbie Skoda owner here.

I hoping to buy on Monday an Octavia 1.9tdi Ambiante SE.

This is one of the vary last of the old models, registerd July 04. I am told it is an SE due to the fact bascially they were clearing them out ready for the new model - hence the upgraded package.

The dealer has told me it is a 90BHP engine in it. However on 2 insurance sites it seems to list it as a 130 bhp. Could this actually be right?

It was certainly very nippy when i drove it, but since it was a short non motorway test I couldn't really tell.

The car is really nice with every conceiveable ectra included cruise control, 6 changer Cd etc.

Any thoughts or comments very welcome!

Check under the mat in the boot. There should be a sticker(LHS, beside spare wheel) with a load of codes on it. At the top of the sticker the car is identified by Engine Code ALH,AGR etc. Just above this but below OCTAVIA you will see one of the following; 66kW, 74 kW,110kW, 85kW etc etc.

The kW figure equate to the BHB; 66 is 90bhp, 74 is 100, 110 is 150, 85 is 115, so 96 should be 130.

Simple? Not really. I got this info off Briskoda. A truly fantastic site we are logged into.

Anyway let us know how you get on and the best of luck with the new car, if purchased.

Thanks Six. It's actually going to be Tuesday now as the saleman is having to take a day off to take his daughter to Uni (and I want to deal with him). But I will check that out. We will buy the car either way, it was more a curiosity (and hoppefullness LOL!) as to why one was saying one thing ans the insurence people the other ( Though thats probably so they can make more dosh!)

I just wondered if there was a "Standard" engine for that model.

Will let you know on Tuesday.

Cheers

Woody

I've never driven a 130, but I've driven a normal Ambiante 90, and a 110. The 110 is faster, but the 90 feels quick for the size and power of car, largely I think because it doesn't really have any turbo lag.

Checked under the boot, 66kw engine, so 90bhp. V5 shows 90BHP, but 3 insurance compaines say it is 130bhp, so gonna send off the v5 copy to prove otherwise.

There were ambiente SEs with the two engines as you've now found.

An easy way to tell at a glance is the gearbox - 5 speed = 90bhp , 6 speed = 130
