Stolen Car Question

Featured Replies

Both of our cars were stolen last night, the thieves having broken into our house and taken the keys ('Tavia vRS TDi and A3 1.8T Sport) :(

Both cars have been recovered and I'm just waiting for the police to finish their forensics before I can collect them.

The Octavia is a co. car so that side of things is covered but I was wondering if I need tell the insurance co. about the other car if there is no damage and I don't have to make a claim.

I would have though it was best to ensure that it doesn't have "stolen Recovered" on it's record!

Thanks in advance!

Steve

I had my mk1 rs stolen but did not get it back for about 6 weeks, had to drive a corsa. So know how u feel with all the inconvenience. I would declare both and get both checked out, nothing will go on their record as such.

I would say that under the road traffic act, you are required to enter into a legal contract with your insurers allowing you to use the car on a road or public place. They therefore 'have an interest' in the vehicle as the insurers of that vehicle.

My have an effect on the Post Code rating.

Good move, you dont know what the car did while the scallys had it. If it did hit/cause damage to a 3rd party, they may come looking for you.

As i say good move

recon the insurer should be told - theif might have cause an accident that has not been traced yet, caused some unseen damage to the car or copied the keys.

Blimey! sorry to hear about that mate, what a p*sstake.

Hope everything works out ok, good that you and the mrs are both ok to. :)

You did the right thing, not worth the greif, been there and its hard to think straight when this kinda thing hits you.

At least you got them back in one piece!

As it was stolen from your home, with the keys, it would be covered under your Home insurance, rather than your Car insurance - so definitely tell the home insurers as stated above.

Tell the Car insurers? Probably, although make it clear that you're not claiming from them.

Does this mean that I have to have my car listed as a high vaule item with my household insurance company?

Thanks in advance

Erm...

Dunno. Hadn't thought about that one...

I think that the House Ins would only cover them if they wernt already covered on there own policy, you cant have an item like a car "insured" twice. House insurance will have nothing to do with it IMO.
