Hi all

Had my Fabia 1.9TD with aircon since new 2001 and have been pleased with it. However I have never known a car like it to mist up, windscreen is the worst and sometimes whe I made a run get then out the car and come back after a short time and the windscreen is like a fog.

any ideas please?

I have exactly the same problem with a 2001 1.4. I presumed a seal was going etc.

do a search on misting, should throw up some info, but common probs are:

1 damp carpets (or underlay)

2 blocked plenum drains (2)

3 blocked/damp pollen filter

4 a/c evaporator retaining moisture on outer surface - not much you can do about that apart from not use a/c

I get this problem to, might be worth making sure your windows are clean on the inside, fog may clear faster if clean?

The other thing to bear in mind is that the a/c will switch off when the ambient temperature is below 4 degrees C which may increase the chances of misting. Making sure the inside of the glass is clean and free from dirt and grease should also help.

I think all Fabias are buggers for this, leaks or not.

Mine mists up quite quickly despite having all doors sealed up and bone dry carpets. One of those things I guess.

My older cars were never as bad. Poor panel fitment and manky window seals always ensured fresh ventilation.

This is my first winter with an 2006 Fabia... one day it rained LOL and we had wet coats. Now the car is always misted up everytime I get in...in fact the water can run in rivulets down the screen NOT GOOD!

Tell me about it - mine's done it twice in the four days I've owned it. Gotta read the manual on rapid de-misting when I get back home I think!

I've had my 1.9 TDi for a little over a year now and have always been impressed with just how quickly it de-mists! Switch on the a/c, turn the blower on to screen at full blast and the car is clear in seconds, even on the wettest days! No problems with steamy windows here!

we have a 51 plate fabia which last feb 07 misted up badly inside with lots of gurgling coming from behind heater matrix with a nasty smell also in the car. it was found that the matrix was knackered.ok we thought .new one fitted and problem solved.here we are almost 1 yr later and guess what, we have exactly same problem.its more like condensation on the inside never mind mist. my mate who looks after the car seems to think it maybe the head gasket that is the problem or even a cracked head !!!!! as shy else would 2 heater matrixs blow in under 12 months!!!!! help please

I used to leave mine with air con on, switched to windscreen and fan speed 1. Seemed to keep it under control most of the time and then just crank up the blower if need be.

Pollen Filter !!!

I'm starting to leave the aircon on most of the time now and clears the screen no problem.

Whilst the aircon/blower do clear screen quickly, personally I prefer not to have them on continuously, and found that turning them off, the windows start to mist almost instantly. In another thread, someone posted about closing all vents and switching blower to feet position when leaving the car... tried this last night and there was virtually no moisture on windscreen this morning or later in the day - saw another fabia in car park all misted up so maybe this will actually work. Plus, today I didn't need aircon/blower on to maintain clear screens. (However, will have to keep an eye, as for once it didn't rain today, and there is of course the worry of the fabia leaky door issue!)

Ive been having real problems with misting up over the last few weeks , 100 times worse than last winter , however , today I've just noticed my passenger carpet has a big sodding wet water mark on it , directly under the glovebox , and when I felt it it was soaking wet , does anyone have a guess as where the water is coming from?

well my car at the moment still has newspaper soaking up the carpet and it seems to be doing the trick , thinking of ligting the carpet now and sticking some newspaper under the floor so that it soaks up anything before it hits the carpet as such

Had the door seals and washer pipe fixed two weeks ago. The garage said they had dried everything out and to be fair i couldn't find any wetness. Car is now going back in due to having serious condensation, ice on the inside of windscreen and ice under the rubber mats in the back! (its only -4 and the car was only still for 36 hours!!)

See what happens this time....

mine is the same (or should I say the wifes now :(:() never known a car like it no damp carpets etc and cant remember the last time we used the aircon.

My 2006 vRS has been misting up badly but a clean of all the glass with Autoglym Car Glass Polish and no misting whatsoever today, even with a carful of people.

Well , my Fabia was in the garage today to let them see the leak problem , and Im not too impressed with what they said. They want to have it for 2 days to strip the dash , carpet and seats out of it to find the leak and dry everything out. I mentioned the plenum drain/pollen filter problem to them and I could tell that they had never heard of this problem , so what am I to do? Leave it with them and get a huge bill (and probably a lot more rattles once the dash has been to bits!) Has anyone got the location of the drain holes that may be blocked (a pic prefferably!) coz I dont know what to do. I can just about smell the dampness iside the car now , not sure what to do...

Picked up the car today. The service boss admitted that the Skoda recommended fix hadn't worked at all and so they have now stripped down the doors (all 4), replaced the seals and actually used sealant around all the seals. New carpets fitted in the back and car dried out with heaters/dehumidifiers. So we'll see how it goes from here...

Incidentally he did actually say that the melting snow provided a much better "test" (and subsequently illustrated the leaks more clearly) than drenching it with a hose :confused:

I checked my pollen filter on Saturday and it was saturated with water and had a good few minging brown leaves mulched up in amonst it as well , oh , and a 6 inch blade of grass! I take it that the drain holes for the scuttle are blocked , but I cant find them , can anybody help me locate them please , car is a 1.4 Mpi , year 2000 build.
