PD140 Octavia tyre life?

Featured Replies

The OEM Dunlops on the front lasted to about 25k , and they were replaced with some Avons which are nearly dead at 45k. They haven't lasted as well but were cheaper than another set of Dunlops so the cost per mile was about the same.

The rears are probably going to make it to 50k before replacement.

What's everyone else getting , and what make of tyres was that with?

By comparison my Mk1 TDI 110bhp got 40k and 60k for front and rear Michelins.

PD140, fronts: 16k, rears so far 22k but the outer part of the tyres has worn lots more than the inside part.

All 4 tyres were Bridgestone RE050's and they are not very good at all.

Fronts about 26k and rears still going at 36k.

The fronts got replaced due to a cut and the rears probably have 4mm+ on them at a guess.

Bridgestone Turenza ER30's

Sounds like mine are about par for the course then.

It's a bit too easy to spin up the wheels which doesn't help longevity :D

Don't you have corners where you live  or is the Octy really that good on tyres

I was doing a bit more motorway mileage at the time , but yes , it was excellent on tyres.

It was also stunningly good on brakes.

When it was sold at 82k I was still on the original disks all round and only the rear pads had been changed!

And , no , before you ask there wasn't a trail of sparks every time I tried to stop the car. ;)

I know mines a Superb but it goes through michelin pilot sports on the front every 15,000 if I am lucky :o

Bring back Michelin MX tyres I say. My dad got 88K out of a set of 4 on a D Reg Escort. They came with the car as new and they left with the car when it went back at the end of the lease.

I have always found that what is a good tyre on one car is crap on another, just expensive to get whats right.

My Mk1 used Michelin Pilot MX tyres , though they weren't cheap to replace.

PD140 Estate

Factory fit fronts (Bridgestones?)made about 17k IIRC, changed to Michelin fuel savers (ditchfinders!)

Original Rears still on at 21.5k

PD140 estate - Bridgestone Turanzas

16850 miles: fronts are down to 2mm. Rears about 4mm.

Just replaced NSR with a blackthorn sticking through the sidewall - farmers thrashing the hedges alongside the roads round her.

Thank goodness I'm not paying...

the dill

Front and rears on mine 20,000 they were Pirelli P6000,s

I got 4 Uniroyal Rainsport tyres in the end - the fronts were dead and the rears only had about 3k left on them - and what a difference they have made.

I know it's always an improvement going from old to new tyres but the grip these have on wet roads is stunning. There's a particular junction turning right onto a main road on my way to work where I always got wheelspin unless I was very carefull with the throttle. With these it just grips and goes. :)

I think the suspect grip in the wet was why the Avons didn't last well - they spun up too easily and shredded themselves

1.9 TDI (105 BHP)

Did ~ 28k with the Michelin fronts

and ~ 41k with them on the back.

I figured that was good enough and have replaced with the same.
