Octavia 2 Misfire??

Featured Replies

Hi,

Got a 05 model TDI PD140 comming up to 90k, starts ok and drives fine but seem to get the feeling when warm it develops a missfire / vibration / litte retarded ignition.

No CEL, recently serviced within 10k, allthough its on variable service.

Have disconected the maf sensor to see if it was that, didnt make any difference, no check engine light either?? Strange would of thought it showed when disconected .

Was thinking a injector may be on its way out, or worse a dropped valve :(

thoughts please JGT

Could be EGR related maybe?

Worth getting some diagnostics done, anyone with VAGCOM local to you?

Have you tried different fuel? SWMBO currently has a Golf GT140 which we used to run on Shell fuel but the company has now changed to Key Fuels which is mainly Morrisons and the like. When using Morrisons fuel the car has an awful 'stutter' from 1800 rpm through to about 2500 rpm.

Hi Tom,

Not sure if there are any member close to me with vag-com :D , the local to me dealer has gone, theres a local specialist where I had my last service but to be honest I dont like em. They seem to charge me the same as my old Main dealer and they dont seem to be that much on the ball.

Stu, I have tried various fuels even BP ultima dosent really make any difference, Hmm funny you should mention stutter I also gett that when comming off the gas pedal at around 2000 /2500 rpm

Should I get a CEL when disconnecting the maf?

It won't be a misfire as such on a derv.

First ports of call for me would be:

- Disconnect the MAF and clean up the connector with some IPA etc then put it back.

- Change the air filter for a new one.

- If you are out of warrenty you could try a double dose of millers power sport 4 to try clean the crap out

- Get the EGR cleaned out as I'm constantly amazed by the amount of **** that builds up in these.

If you disconnect the MAF while the car is running you will get a CEL. Do it while the car is off and the keys out and you won't.

Also have you ever had the fuel filter changed?

Hi cheezemonkhai,

Ahh I see re maf, fuel filter been changed as has air filter.

EGR??

What does it do where do I find it??

Thanks JGT

EGR is Exhaust Gas Recycler.

This thing allows different amounts of exhaust gas back into the combustion chambers. If it's full of crap or not closing/opening properly and the IC is full of sludge the engine won't be liking it.

It's usually sat on a big pipe towards the rear left of the engine. A search should find you a picture but I'm afraid I don't have one to hand.

If you asked a decent Indy garage to do it I'm sure they would be more than capable.
