yet another newbie

Featured Replies

i've just bought a 2000 Octavia estate 1.9tdi with 112000 miles on it as a medium term stop gap.

reason for purchase i needed to replace a legacy estate and an st170 focus, guy at work recconed the vag engine was better than the peugeot and early Lagunas have an appaling record so the skoda came to the top.

it's the first diesel i have owned, the first time i have driven a diesel regularly for 15 or 18 years - that was made by volvo and weighed 17 tonnes all up.

having been somewhat critical of diesels in the past i have been pleasantly suprised to date (all of 3 days) whilst it's not quick it does better than the scooby did and uses a lot less fuel.

Hiya.

IMO the VAG 1.9 TDi is better than the PSA XUD engines, but I'm not convinced it's better than the newer HDi units (which I'd expect to find on a 2000 MY car or later).
