Harumph! :grumpy:

It was all going so well, then the battery started to get low so I switched off. Didn't get round to charging it for a couple of days and when I did I was greeted with a delightful little message "Connect to your computer. Use iTunes to restore". So I did after charging it up. Wish I hadn't now. Vista in its wisdome diecided to format it without asking. Very rarely does the iTunes recognise it now and when it dioes it tells me it is corrupt and would |I like to restore. Damned right I would. It then starts to restore then tells me it doesn't recognise it.

Have done numerous reboots only to get the same connect to iTunes and restore message or it tells me it is connected and not to disconnect even if I am nowhere near a PC!

I can put it in to disk mode so all is not lost (I assume).

It's a 5th gen video, 60GB

Any ideas how to make it work?

I believe that this is a problem with vista not handling removable storage too well (just the ipod i think) which is fixed with a windows hotfix.

Will it not be picked up by itunes if you just put it into disk mode?

restart the iPod in disc mode this should allow you to restore it again and then do a scan of the drive.

Should get it back again

Not just the iPod, whenever I insert any flash drives into my work laptop it says that the disk is corrupt and would I like windows to try and fix it? No, not at all, it works fine!

Nope, been fighting it for 4 days now and seriously unhappy!

Do you have a non-Vista machine you can try it on?

(Not an ipod owner, just eliminating possibilities)

Linux live CD and format it fat32 should do the trick..

Shows what a piece of cack vista is if it does that though.

yep, similar results :(

Looking on Apple forum, I'm not alone :grumpy:

Get it on an XP machine and it should be fine or if you can a mac.

That should sort it out

booked for 19:45 tonight (I hope!). Timed out while I was entering comments :(

Bugger, sorry to hear it mate :(

If you need a recharge of the music when its fixed just pop it in the post (although I know much of it was of questionable taste  )

I'm thinking of buying another, so if you leave it 3 or 4 months there may be an 80GB for sale! :P

It's my 60 that's cream crackered Tom, not Cheryl's 30. As for replacing it, nah, it's big enough as it is I only have 42GB on it, no need for 80 and I reckon my taste is more dodgy than yours! ;)

;)

That makes me feel a tad less guilty then.

what did m$ do for 7 years? vista just seems to be a big joke!

The best one i read yesterday was about IE8 is going to ignore web standards. Those of you who have built websites in the past will know about the nightmare with IE not displaying css the same as other browsers causing a website to look fine in firefox but all wrong in IE. Well they aint gonna fix it either..

Try PMing Mossman....he is an Apple nutter!

No really, do try him for advice...

no need mate its all been sorted now ;)
