shocks and springs

Featured Replies

Hi

Im in the prosess of swapping the std shocks and springs on my 02 fabia combi mpi. Rear is all done, but before I start with the front - should I change everything - by that I mean the top strut mount and bearings as well? (the car has high km, and dampers has never been changed before) or can I just reuse the montings?

I am lowering the car with a 35/40 mm kit, and I am chopping the original bump stops - I made the rear 2.5 cm shorter, and will try to chop the front 2cm. Shold I do more at the back, or is it enough?

Not sure what the recommendation is, but when my Eibachs (springs and dampers) went on at about 65k miles nothing else was changed and I didn't bother having the bump stops trimmed (and never had a problem with them). I guess it won't do any harm to replace other bits, but I'm not sure there's a huge gain :D

Having just done the job last weekend, I can say that your top mounts will prolly be ok - only possible prob is that the rivnuts may turn, meaning you would have to drill the screws out. Definitely renew top bearings (£9-31 +vat), bump stops were ok but are only £7-13 and bellows were ok. This is a 70k/8 year old car. You are supposed to renew bolts and nuts, whole lot came to about £7. Just spotted your location, so you will prolly pay less lol!
