Possible another turbo bites the dust

Featured Replies

Coming back from the girlfriends house this evening, accelerated away from the lights and there was a very high pitch squeel, then a bang, then smoke

STopped the engine straight away, and called my little bro who came with the hilux and towed me home.

I recont he turbos gone again :thumbdwn: theres a nice patch of oil under the car atm, but will have to wait and see what tomorrow brings.

To say i am ****ed off is an understatement!

Sounds like the squeal and bang might have been a boost pipe splitting leading to loads of smoke. Hope you get it sorted. :(

Hope it is just a boost pipe Wouldnt explain the oil mind :(

Was it under the turbo, or more behind the front right wheel? Because if it popped off near the SMIC, there's always some sludge in there. ;)

There is a fair amount of oil in the boost pipework from the crankcase breather. If you've popped a lower section of pipe it could have spat a load out.

Edit - Jason beat me to it

Of course, the solution to that oil is to reroute the CCV pipework. ;)

Thanks guys

Just been out to the car with a tourch and the oil is defo coming from behind the drivers side wheel. Which hopefully means its a boost pipe thats gone.

CAnt wait to get the undertray off and have a peak. might go do it now in the dark :)

Those dodgy VAG clips again!

I'm so happy to have uber-clips on all my boost pipework. None of my boost pipework is going to pop - in fact I think my boost hoses are rated lower than the clips, so technically they would pop/tear before the clip actually gave way.

Well I am pleased to announce, my furbys all well again.

Twas a damn boost pipe  I should have known this, feel like a noob

Only think that put me away from boost pipe was seeing oil patchs on my drive.

But jason/vrsfab was correct it was just crap from inside the intercooler.

Cant wait to get my allard pipe and ccv pipe on

Have you resecured the clip with anything extra to stop it happening again?

PS: I'm always right.... :rolleyes::D

No not yet, just popped it back in place, will be uprating the whole intercooler system shortly so will just leave it till then, gunner leave the undertray off for a few weeks then if it happens again ill be able to fix at the side of the road :D

undertray? :D

undertray? :D

 Weight saving again was it

Nope - just easy access to the sump for oil changes, plus I reckon it helps with cooling a bit.

i'd agree with that

Apparently it's just a noise-deadener (also I think it works well to keep cats out of the engine bay in cold weather - will not tell you a nasty and expensive horror story that happened in a mate's beamer...).

Didnt notice any difference in warm-up time or any over-heating even during an Arabian summer....

Noisier without and would keep any road muck from splashing up into the engine....

I know its a PITA to keep taking off and putting back on, but it's there on the car, likely for a reason.....
