I ve just bought a mk1 octavia and i need a spare key. Some people have said you can re code keys with vag-com. is this right??

Is vag-com easy to use? and i see its available on ebay...

The one you seen on eBay is a third party cable that isn't supported by Ross Tech and would only be supplied with demo software which isn't able to code a key.

Yes you can buy a licence for $99.

You will also need the Secret Key Code (SKC) for your car.

where do i find the secret key code?

this all seems hard anyone know an independant place i could get a key cut and coded or is it only main delaer?

The SKC is normaly supplied with the car from new. If you did't have that then you would need to have the key coded by a dealer as they don't have access to them it's all online with the diagnostic tool.

You could try badgering head office in Miltion Keynes for the SKC under block exemption rules.

Alternatively there are a couple of devices available which can extract the code from the dashpod but the purchase of one might not be viable for a single use.
