MPG ouch!!

Featured Replies

My fuel economy seems to have got even worse than normal and I have just worked it out and it seems to have gone from around 28mpg to 23.8mpg.

The temperature gauge seems fine and the time my thermostat did need replacing I was still managing to get 25mpg.

I know in winter and the cold mornings the engine takes longer to warm up but would it really make such a big difference as this or have you any ideas what else it could be.

well my vrs this morning got a mpg of 29 and this is from a diesel, I think it is the cold mornings mate cos my temp guage never moved on my 3 mile commute to work, last night seen the best I got, getting about 40mpg driving back accross the town.

I presume that is Petrol?

We get about 50Mpg out of a 1.4 TDi

I'd ask how are you driving it if you can only get 25 mpg from a petrol 1.4 fabia. I can achieve at least 30mpg without using too much restraint on the right foot in a 300bhp+ Octavia. What is your typical journey time and traffic like?

Yeah it's a petrol 1.48v so not the best on petrol round town it doesnt matter how gentle I am and change gear early it's 28mpg at its best however it does take me 45 mins to do 8 miles in the morning and about 30mins for the return journey at night.

But even taking that into consideration it has never been anywhere near as low as this.

My mpg in my 1.4 8v vary around the 30mpg mark, minimum is 25 and thats low gears high revs. Most of my driving is 60-70mph on main roads and duel carrageways though. through a town the mpg is lower.
