quick bulb check

Featured Replies

Hi,

bulb warning light's come on, me near side dipped has gone.

So i was going to quickly order some new ones today, then i thought, bugger it i'll get good replacements for the lot (night-breakers or x-tremes) ie main, dipped and side.

I just need to check the type

Main H3

Dipped H7

Side w5w

also does anyone know what type of led clusters part numbers are compatible for the w5w side lights?

cheers

no matter i checked it out.

I Ordered

Osram Night Breaker H3

Osram Night Breaker H7

Plus i got a pair of Philips Blue Vision W5W thrown in for free. :-)

free delivery + 10% discount = £44.91 the lot, pretty good no?

did u get the +90% nightbreakers - soiunds like we got ours from the same place :D

aye 90%, never seen em in a side by side comparison with x-tremes, so dont know if youd notice the extra 10% but what the hey, it was a good deal.

Also dont know if the blue vision thingies are any good compared to standard or the led ones, but its saved me the trouble of buying new sidelights. Id still like to know which led sides to go for, just for the future.

^ all correct!

X-tremes are very good, so if the osram are equal or better, you'll be very pleased!

Link on my site to autobulbs direct - found the service from these guys second to none. Arrives next day and they have good technical knowledge too.

Well finally got round to installing me new set of bulbs. :)

I now have 'Skoda Knuckle' to show for it, bloody hell they couldnt have made it much harder. Especially the unit with the battery in the way, it was like key hole surgery with needlenose pliers!

Any way i can say that the new nightbreakers are a vast improvement and well worth the money, brighter and noticably whiter light than my old ones. The free philips blue vision sidelights are great too, a much colder and brighter look which is miles better than the candles i had in before.

Ive attached some before and after shots of the side, dipped and full beams. They dont really do reality justice and they are also a little unfair since the car was filthy before i fitted the new bulbs. Plus on dipped i was obviously missing the bulb that blew so the fence shot is never going to be a direct comparrison, but hopefully theyll give you some idea, especially colour-wise.

Im not very photo-savvy, so these were taken on auto settings (probably could have been better), plus i wouldnt know a photo-shop if it tapped me on the shoulder and offered me some fine leather jackets, so theyre undoctored.

first the sidelights

Now the dipped

Finally the fullbeam

like i say they dont quite come across quite as good as when youre in the driving seat, but trust me theyre quality same wattage replacements :)

If you are after LED sidelights that will last, then you need to make sure that it has a metal casing, as in a plastic casing over a period of time the LED will fail and flicker (being so close to the dipped bulb). Have a look on www.ultraleds.com and search for them (The Ultimate II 501/T10/194 1 x 1 Watt Ultra Xenon White), I have purchased these, and they are brilliant.

Si

Heres a pic of them fitted in my classic mini, compared to the standard bulb (501/w5w)
