Supaguard on ebay

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Been offered Supaguard by my dealer on on new Octy Vrs for £149 but having read other posts regarding the same product on ebay for around the £20 mark I was just wondering whether the 3 year guarantee still applied if I apply the product?

To be honest I am just concerned with the interior, with the Vrs seats having light sections and me having two young kids. I intend to wax the exterior on a regular basis.

I am thinking that a saving of £120ish for 10 minutes spraying onto seats/carpets may be worth it if the 3 year guarantee still applies.

Many thanks

Unlikely the warranty will apply, but my guess is the warranty only gets you a small discount on re-application. These "guard" or "shine for life" things are just money-spinners for the dealers.

ok where to start :)

no its not warrantied as it can only be warrantied if its properly put on by a authorsied dealer. normally these bits that are on ebay are left overs or nabbed from cleaning bays from around the country.

also to do it properly and for it to be worth doing you need to do the car in a cool shaded environment. you need to prep the paint by getting rid of any dirt of wax on the car before you start. the appilcation is like putting polish on, so the metal cant be damp or hot. also you need to leave the supagard on for some time and it cant get hot or wet during that time.

once thats done it the excess can be removed by hand. then the inteior gard needs to be applied to clean fabrics, normally they are steam cleaned off first to ensure a clean surface. this stuff is an areosol and needs to be done in a ventalted area. once thats cured its wiped down toremove excess.

then the plastic gard is applied. same thing as the seats, the surface must be clean and free from any other cleaning products.

its quite labour intensive, which is why the costs tend to be between 200-400 quid depending on the deal you strike up.

plus when you buy the proper kit from a dealer you get:

International security etchings for your windows

1 years keyfinder

discount card for places like sainsburys, john lewis etc.

a good bag with shampoo, wheel cleaner, protector, tyre spray, drying cloth, sponge, wheel brush, resealer cream, bird lime neutraliser, and cleaner wipes too.

it all adds up ;)

the warranty says if you discover that the treatment has failled before the 3 years is up they bring the car back for re-application and re supagard. which means you also get a full valet too. all free!

there are so many treatments out there and so many people who sware by them, they do work! i had 2 cars, both the same colour, same sort of age, same sort of milage. one had been supagarded, the other wasnt. as we only get a quick chance to wipe the cars over every so often the supagarded car always looked better, and sold quicker too, even though it had a few hundred miles more on the clock.

the thing is most people on here take pride in washing a polishing their cars, i know i do. which is why i dont have mine supagarded. i enjoy taking my time over the cleaning and detailing. if it were supagarded it wouldnt need so much work. if your busy, dont have the time to do that, or simply cant be bothered and simply want to wash and dry the car, supagard type products are for you

If your not into car care then do it as my mums leon has it on.

It looks half decent to me but then again last year i spend about £1k on car care products so im going to say that

I have got SUPAGARD on my mk1 octy vrs and I have to say......not impressed!

Paint has gone yellow around the edges! I suspect poor initial application. It's too late to do anything about it now though.:thumbdwn:

Ref interiors, you can scotchguard yourself using a Bissel proheat cleaner ;)
