Leaking Windscreen Etc

Featured Replies

This mighy help someone out there with the inevitable leaking windscreen,or sunroof seal

on the felicia.

See if you can (lend) a little of the silicon fluid that is used in maintaince on photo copying

machines in your office (they use it to make the paper run smoothly through machine) smear this fluid round lip of sunroof seal and in the case of windscreen seal try to pour

a little into seal use a blunt knife to slightly prise rubber away from window glass 2 or 3 mm and encourage fluid along seal.

silvafelicia 84000 miles 1.3 still going strong !

I am guessing this is the same stuff as Silicone Oil? Like 3 In 1 Silicone Spray :: 44015 :: HOW44015 :: 3 in 1 3 in 1 Oil I picked up a good few cans while it was I think 99p a can in LIDL.

Also useful for tailgate leaks. Clean seal and spray :)

Apparently vaseline is bad for rubber, although before I knew this I used it with no apparent issues.

I have read Dot5x brake fluid is 100% silicone, does not mix with water, does not strip paint (but should not be mixed with Dot3/4 or used with ABS), and that silicone can be used as a driveshaft 'spray / brushon like paint' boot protection dressing, to preserve the rubber.?

99p sounds a good price.

:)

I have wondered if this is worth trying myself. Would be great to hear an anecdotal story from someone who's done it religiously for many years and never had one split.

Hi. Did The Leaking Windscreen Cause Water To Leak Down Into Footwells As I Have Checked Every Other Possibility And Can Not Find A Problem Elsewhere.

Yes - that's how the leak is noticed usually. Put your hand up under the dashboard, there's some kind of spongy insulation there, you'll probably find that it's soaked, and then it drips down in the footwell.
