Free in car handsfree fitting at halfords

Featured Replies

Hello All,

I just picked up my new octy vrs, well it was an ex demo but only 6 months old. I need a phone car kit as i left my old one in my car when i traded it in.

I see halfords have free fitting on their kits, specifically the 3200ls. Has anyone had any experience of this kit and would you let someone from halfords fit it. Last time i got free fitting from the carphone warehouse but that offer has finished. I just don't want some kid taking my car to bits and not being able to put it back together. I am sure you understand my worries!

Thanks in advance.

...and would you let someone from halfords fit it.

Ur, no. I already have enough rattles in my car without someone ripping out interior trim and not putting it back properly!

i wouldnt let halfrauds anywhere near my car. just my opinion.

This is what i was thinking. Letting someone loose in my car to fit a phone kit when they probably fit wiper blades all day. Shame though as it was the best deal on offer from what i have found. Perhaps it would be better to pay the carphone warehouse guy the £70 and let them do it. Or wait for the free offer again.

Anyone got any other ideas?

I can highly recommend Phil at Justcarkits works around the M25. He has twice fitted Parrot Bluetooth Car Kits to my Octy's. Great price & service and a genuinly nice guy.

Half*cks fitted my Parrot. No rattles but the spotty youth took hours as he could have trouble fitting the control box and all teh wires in behind the radio - I then discovered that they have wired it to a permenant live ( there is no ignition live at the radio connectors), so my pnone was connecting to teh car when it was parked outside the office!!!

Couldn't bring myself to take it back and let the youth have another go so fixed it myself - led an ingintion live feed from the fuse box and had no trouble atall in fitting it all back in.

Why not do it yourself?

Plenty of info on here, and many members have done it with both Nokia and Parrot systems ;)

All you'll need is your chosen kit, the VW leads and connector for the mute on the radio, a brodit mount/bracket if fitting a cradle, and picking up a feed from the fuse box.

I wouldn't let them fit a magic tree in my car let alone a handsfree kit. I've seen their handywork on a mates car - shocking.

Yes yes I'm sure there are decent fitters in the Halfords network but i'm fu*ked if i've seen one

Oh yes switched feed problem, brought an ignition feed myself from the fuse box. Mentioned this to the 'fitter' in Halfords who promptly said thats not a standard fit sir, to bring a feed across will be £45 on top. £45 for a metre of wire and a crimp i don't think so.

Hmmm, does your new car have Maxidot? If so there is a MUCH better solution :)

An OEM Bluetooth kit which integrates with the car is by far the best option imho.

More information on it in this long running thread and a 'How To' here although if you ask nicely VRStu is your man

Even if your car does not have Maxidot dont worry as that can be retro fitted too :)

I have to say that from what I read the OEM kit doesn't like newer phones. Can the software on it be updated or is everything fine now?

Not that i'm considering it of course ;)

I have not experienced any problems and neither has anyone whos had one afaik. There was an issue with SOME Nokia phones but understand that issue was resolved.

Hmm interesting.

I've made up a custom loom for my parrot, but I know somebody else who will be interested :)

Yes you are right really, i shouldn't be so lazy and just give it a go myself. I don't have the maxidot in answer to the question earlier. The handsfree kits are so cheap to buy if you want to fit them yourself i am just not sure if i will be able to get the car back together. I will certainly look at the guide though.

I just noticed the same motorola kit on the web that i used to have in my fab vrs and its only £37 now. I may well have to give this a go you know. Much cheapness if you DIY.

The Octy II is a bit of a pain to fit to actually due to the lack of switched live at the radio.

You have to run one from the fuse box, so i'm running all three from there.

Also you need the green connector and some wires from skoda to plumb it into the radio properly.
