Project Wasp - My vRS plans to come.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

When I bought my vrs back in September 2007, I made a pledge to SWMBO that I would not touch the car ie mod it like I did to my focus but the modding bug has bitten me and after speaking to fellow members on this site and other sites I'm ready to spend some cash on the car. After speaking to SWMBO's brother today I think I'm ready to take the plunge.

Hence project Wasp is born, I've already started on the yellow and black theme with the stripes and even added the splitter.

Here is some of the mods I want to do, my plan is to keep the car subtle and the way Skoda planned with a twist.

1)Powdercoated black wheels

2)Strutbrace

3)PD160 intake

4)Anti roll bar

5) and some other black goodies to break up the yellow but not too over the top.

My car is putting out 152.7bhp so think I'm going to stick with the power but what do you guys suggest, can I remap it more or add a air filter.

Any suggestions and opinions welcome??

Cheers

Davy

I would stick with the power at 152 as it will save you forking out for a clutch in the future.

As regards to air filters i would get a replacement green cotton panel filter, or K+N

Ive got a Pipercross...there ok.

Cheers guys, I've heard about the green cotton filter, what sort of power would i expect from the pd160 coupled with this on top of the 152bhp??

Davy

About 5bhp if your lucky, The PD160 coupled with a free flowing filter helps the car to rev more freely, 4000k + revs

Yay a fellow yellow embarking on the modifications quest - will be interesting to watch this thread along with mine.

even 5bhp take it near 160bhp, so that would be good in my eyes.

Skodastream - Suppose with spending about £2000-£3000 on my last car doing it up makes me want to mod it, even through it is quick enough for me and I did promise SWMBO I would not touch our car, the little modding bug steps in and seeing my mates focus' yesterday at a Ford meet wants me to mod another car.

Davy

Skodaboy1983 - oh dear sounds like we both have a bad habit - i've been modding cars with the other half since we bought a Type-R in 2003, it amuses our parents no end

well I still have parts from the focus in the parents house I have to sell!

Another wee mod is to change the bulbs over in the lights which is in hand over the weekend.

Davy

Catchy name! Where'd you get that idea from:rolleyes::D

152 sounds like a nice, safe, smooth amount of power. :)

A wee update to Project Wasp and thanks to Skodastream for pointing me in the direction of this. This is just a temp number plate surround till I can get a set of Briskoda set made (as per general car chat thread)

Yes I know the car is dirty but you have to drive it, but a clean is due.

The number plate surround was a 10 -15 minute fitting job, just taking the screws out lining up and placing the plate in and screwing back in.

I also found that Chatham Skoda done a crude job on screwing the plates onto the car, drilled into the metal work, which was pointless as I can see two holes already made for the car, mind you the last dealer Benfield's actually just stuck on the plates.

Apart from that little gripe I'm very pleased and a cheap mod to carry out, next on the agenda is the bulbs to uprate the side light and indiactors, if I have any money left as I have to attend a wedding fair at the weekend as well :(

Cheers

Davy

yay looks really good well done Davy. Quick service wasnt it. Just do a bit at a time. The 501s are the cheapest bulb to replace first and you can then do the main beams after the wedding fayre haha!

  • Author

very quick service, I was actually expecting them to come today.

Hi all

Been busy again today with the modding of Project Wasp.

I visited MIkeSM56 today and the guys of MGS at bonnyrigg on the outskirts of edinburgh and changed the bulbs at the front of the car.

This is the car tonight on the LED sidelights, I also invested today in a set of silvertec indiactor bulbs.

What do you think to the sidelights??

I think it was £30 well spent

Cheers

Davy

Sorry for the poor quality.

I'd not be best pleased with the holes drilled into the boot lid. They're sure to go rusty over time, make sure they're coverd with paint or at worst a good layer of grease.

it has gone slighty rusty but I'm waiting on the better weather to get the little chips and that sorted.
