Can a Seat Cupra 6 speed gearbox fit the Vrs

Featured Replies

As title...

Thinking of fitting a 6 speed box onto the Pctavia....anyone done it?

it does yea.

dont know if you need any other stuff like drive shafts to make it work though

Pretty sure you need driveshafts and a starter motor.

You at least need the driveshafts. might get away with the starter motor, but cannot be 100% on that.

The 02M box needs the following:

  1. Driveshafts
  2. Starter
  3. Gearbox mounting brackets
  4. Gear linkage inc. support brackets
  5. Flywheel
  6. Clutch

Make sure you have the petrol 02M gearbox, as you need at least 300bhp to get the diesel box to work well due to its longer ratios.

I was thinking of doing it,

but found out the 5th gear in the Octy is the same a 6th in the LCR.

So no extra speed just more gear change.

Absolutely true!

For a standard(ish) vRS engine the 02J 5 speed box is far better than any of the LCR/Golf GTi 25th anniversary/TT/S3 6 speeder.

My diesel box is quite different however...:D:D

This thread reminds me! I must not forget Des' gearbox on saturday morning. :o

Glad to have been a service to you:D

Mr Wonder, how do you rate the TDI box with the IHI? What speed does each gear go to? Driveability?

Ta. ;)

The IHI (vf34) with diesel 6 speed is a perfect combination IMO:thumbup:

The driveability is better than before - thanks mainly to the bigger turbo and other bits in the engine, but it is still excellent and I cannot fault it. My rev limiter is now set at 7500rpm. Before motorway cruising was roughly 3k @ 80mph, 80mph is now 2100rpm, so 6th is only really a autobahn gear, but it is still very nice to have it!!

In gear speeds are: (in brackets = old 5 speed box set with 7k limiter)

1st = 55 (43)

2nd = 87 (74)

3rd = 125 (110)

4th = 150 (140)

5th = 175 (150ish...)

6th = 175+

I would love to say the longer ratios have reduced my wheel spin.......it still spins in the dry in 2nd when coming on boost, 3rd is much better now, but is can still do it if your aggressive with the gear change even at 85-90mph!!

Steve:)

me and my brother (who drives an S3) did a text on a strecth of dual carriage way and found iirc 500-750rpm difference between my 5th and his 6th gear.

just thought id mention it. and the other day on a runway i hit 148 in 5th with it not far off the redline so always wondered how people have hit 160 with there VRS's

Fook me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbup:

That sure does sound amazing Mr Wonder. If my potential purchase goes through I wouldn't mind a bit of a demo.

Speedo or sat nav speed ?

The Octy speedoo on my 4x4 is more than a tadge optimistic, 100 on the speedo is a whisker over 90 on the tom tom.

Tops I managed cruising with a Ferrari was a whisker over 170 on the Tom Tom, Speedo needle was in the trip window, Fezzer showing 180 on the clock, Not on a UK highway of course

Im running the TT 6 speed box & the limiters on 7800, I find the ratios suit the 4x4 with the IHI rather well

Sat Nav as i didnt look at my dials at the time i just looked at the max speed bit on the nav. however at the same time an S3 was doing similar speeds to me and his clocks where close to 160.

just seemed that nearly a 20mph difference is a lot. my old vectra used to get more accurate the faster you went.
