Sticky throttle

Featured Replies

HI all question about all vag cars, my wife has a 1.9tdi seat ibiza sport and on occasions the throttle sticks and the revs stay at 1100 to 1500 rpm, pulling on the pedal cures this, my car an octavia 1.9tdi never suffers from this problem but the service manager from the garage says its my driving style!!, anybody else experienced this problem on a vag car, 2nd part of the question is, is the throttle done by a new style electric wire or a old style cable.

thanks

Which tunes are the engines in? The 130 PD has drive by wire, but I'm not sure that's true of the 90 and 110 engines.

I'd suspect one or more of a sticky pedal pivot, sticky cable, and dodgy return spring. The sticky issues want lubricating (or possibly a new cable if it's frayed), and the spring wants a new or additional one.

Of course, this presumes that the pedal isn't sticking on a piece of loose trim!

no loose trim, pedal doesn’t move when you pull up on it but the revs return to normal, and the fault is intermittent so the garage never see it.

Thanks

Maybe the throttle position sensor, irrespective of engine tune.

You can tell if it is drive by wire by holding the revs at about 2000 in neutral and pressing the brake pedal, if the revs drops it's drive by wire. My 110 tdi octy is and it's not a PD.

All you need, to achieve that is an electronically controlled injection pump, and the 110 has one of those.

I've got a 1.9TDi 100hp Fabia Elegance with the very same problem you have.

It's booked in to the local dealer later today for a check, so I'll let you know the result.

Cheers, problem has gone away after i squirted some wd40 on the pedal pivot but i would be interested in the outcome, the garage wouldn’t do anything about it as it didn’t have a error code logged!
