Hot and cold performance?

Featured Replies

I'v left this now for a couple of weeks to see if there are any changes but so far theres not. Some days the car runs absolutely spot on, i.e power at the tap of the throttle. But other days it runs very lethargic, i.e has nowhere near as much power and feels sluggish. On the good days i can hear the dump valve going off on lift off and on the bad running days i cant. Am i right in thinking that this is probably a boost leak somewhere or the dump valve failing? I havent looked at anything yet but in the morning i'm going to take the enging cover off and take a look. I was just hoping someone might say "oh i had this same thing and it was" I'm just hoping its not a tired turbo, although i,m thinking not as theres absolutely no smoke. The car is an 04 with 85k full service history and new cambelt and water pump change in December. After the cambelt and water pump i'v fitted a green cotton panel filter, had the car custom mapped at Jabba and had a full Milltek exhaust put on. Car is still running the standard dump valve as this is what the guy at jabba suggested as the car is one of the last Vrs to be made. Although i dont know if there were changes to the dump valve at all. Thanks in advance for any help and/or pointers.

You got PM

sounds like it could be related to the 17705 issue that alot of people, and me, are having.

the fault relates to a pressure drop between the turbo and throttle body.

i've replaced my DV and checked for leaks, but can't find anything visually wrong with the car. the power has felt down a couple of times admittedly, but im never quite sure whether it's me being paranoid or not.

the fact that the power drop appears randomly, sort of rules out a leak in my mind.

personally i think its something electrical. such as an ecu bug. as turning the car off and on again puts the power back on to normal.

some people have changed all the related hoses and valves, and cleaned the throttle body, but still have the random power drop issue.

i wonder if it's some funny emissions reduction cycle in the ecu gone awol!

from what ive read it doesnt seem mechanical, and not a major issue. hook it up to some diagnostics and see if any error codes pop up.

other than that, try having a chat with ecu and ask her to keep her mind on the job at hand. hooning!
