MAF Sensor issue?

Featured Replies

In the search to try and resolve my hesitation / missfire issues under part throttle, I have done the following; My car runs fine under full throttle, apart from a miss at 6k rpm.

Replaced Spark plugs for colder running plugs with a 0.8mm gap.

Replaced Coils.

Re-fitted N75F valve.

Unmapped car.

Now the plugs and coils made no difference to the way the car ran.

Removing the map did. The car now runs like it used to - just very slow LOL.

I do not believe the map is at fault. I have used it before and no issues have been reported to me.

I think the map has found something weak on my car and is exploiting it.

I did a small drive with the MAF disconnected (after the unmap) and then drove it again re-connected.

I can report that the car drove no differently.

Could this be an issue?

I have no Engine warning light on, fuel economy is still good and the performance with and without the MAF connected was what I'd expect from a standard Octavia.

I'm a bit baffled myself.

One good thing to do to your MAF would be the Cage Mod (there is a thread about it).

Obviously its not going to cure all your probs but will certainly help and you should notice a difference.

Mike, when i had my little problem i disconnected the maf and it made no noticeable difference so i wouldn't think its that.

If you've got a high rev misfire, I'd suspect the HT electrics, so either plugs breaking down or dud coilpack(s). VAGCom should be able to test the coilpacks.

Maybe you should have gone for the iridiums Mike ;)

I dont like iridiums because of their frailty.

Ken, I've replace the coil packs and plugs with new items.

Ok, take one, repeat one and only one, of the old plugs, and test for the misfire with it in each position. Bad new plugs aren't unknown.

i have another set of new plugs i can put in it

If there's a bad plug in the set that's in, it's probably only the one.

well im having the map worked on as well, as the miss isnt always there at 6k.

if it stops snowing i will go and change the plugs one at a time, just odd why its only doing it when mapped.

You're putting more load on the plugs, and most high speed misfires in plugs are caused by breakdowns in the insulation, so the plug sparks late if at all.
