CAT lifespan

Featured Replies

My 2002 fabia mpi has a crack in the flexible downpipe conected to the CAT. Mechanic said he could weld a new pipe to the CAT and save me some money, but I was just wondering what lifespan I can expect from the CAT as it is the original, and the car has 175000km on the clock...

Would be a waste to spend money on the quick fix if I would need a new CAT in a year or two...

I've never heard of a cat being replaced because it's "worn". The only time I've heard of it being replaced is when it has been damaged as a result of a problem with the exhaust gases and their contents hitting it. I'd go for the quick fix

Cats can go anytime. Depends on how they have been treated.

However if the car is running ok and passes emissions then just get the pipe welded. I had a Cavalier SRI that had done 230,000 miles and still passed emissions however i know a mate who had a vectra 1.8 SRI who would go through a cat every 20k (It had a habit of chucking oil down the pipe)

my ginger cat paddy died last month...sad days..when did yours pass away...**** sorry did you mean car cat lol

I drove a Nissan Micra for 15 years and more than 360,000 kilometres, cat worked perfectly all the time.
