Salt/grit in engine bay - how to remove?

Featured Replies

I had to pass two gritters on the M1 yesterday and as a result my engine bay is now covered in salt and grit.

I don't really want to leave it as i can't imagine it will do it much good so what's the best option for removing it? I thought about using the hose but I'm not sure if that's adviseable? The other option is the hoover I suppose!

jet wash?

I think a hoover is a good start tbh... :)

Mine is covered too, needs a good detail tbh.

Start with the Hoover, then cover any openings, (If you have the engine cover off for example)with tin foil. Then wash the engine with a fine spray attachment on the end hose. Make sure the aux drive belt area and any electrical items dont get soaking wet - you can use tin foil or plastic bags to cover

Every spring when the icy weather has done, have always washed the engine bay out using this method and never had any problems.
