Bio Diesel ....anyone see fith gear

Featured Replies

Not sure if it was a repeat or not as I only caught the last bit of it but they had a bio diesel converter, cost £2,000 is about the size of 2 litterbins one on top of the other and will take oil from the local chippy 50 litres at a time and with chemicals produce 50 litres of bio diesel....the company that produces it are looking to set up larger versions around the country so everyone can buy from them if needed..........can anyone see the price of used chippy oil going up

I'm not sure that local chippy's would be allowed to "supply" members of the public TBH.

To the best of my knowledge they (and other catering establishments) have to have thier used oil etc recycled or professionally disposed of, for which there is a cost of course.

Still, 15p a ltr is worth looking into..............

PM Shifty, hes in the chip & fish business

Also remember some newer diesels are fuel sensitive

Shifty also doesn't use oil, he uses fat - hence why his chips are just so god damn tasty! :)

I think the tax on homegrown/veg oil etc has all but been abolished for the home motorist for the first 20k litres or something like that, making the taxation thing a non-issue for 95% of motorists.

They have removed the taxation on 2500 litres of the stuff.. after that you have to cough up to use it.

I did watch that fifth gear... it was ace, took 8 hours to do 50 litres... they said it used chemicals so im guessing you have to buy and add those each time...

It even had a petrol pump on the side to fill you car up directly!

Heres a link!

What sort of price per litre if you use fresh oil? If its less than a pound a litre then expect your supermarket/cash and carry/wholesaler to be permanently out of cooking oil. Damn, should have kept my 15yr old, 135k mile diesel clio.

I have been involved with a number of projects over the last 2 or 3 years where bio-diesel was being produced from chip fat.

Many of the original participants started in a very small "Heath Robinson" way but some have grown to an almost industrial level - and so has the demand of waste chip fat.

What was a waste product is now sought after and it is becoming a closed shop.

Some now travel fair distances to gather up this "new gold" - great for the carbon footprint - not

If you buy one, 2334 litres later it has paid for itself....thats about 23,000 miles

Ive just had to dump (officialy, nudge nudge wink wink) over 400 litres of biodiesel , due to new MAN trucks inability to run on the stuff. Luckily a lot of the lads at work run old escort diesels and transits so were able to dispose of it in an enviromentaly friendly way
