cutting out problem

Featured Replies

can anyone help ?

my car cuts out occasionally but very intermittently usually going uphill at pace in top gear. When i go down through the gears i can usually keep it going. A lot of times there is no problem at all !!

i have had all the checks done and various spares fitted but still have trhe same problem. It feels like a fuel line problem are there any fuel filters i can check ?

any help gratefully received

when you dip the clutch do the revs drop an then cut out? if so i had that problem. i think it was the cold weather an the fact i didnt drive it in like a week an the battery must of gone flat.

just drive it round an see if u can charge the battery. if it dont keep its charge may be time for a new battery or worse a new alternator.

hope this has helped (if not there are loads of cutting out threads on here that could help)

thanks for the info, yes the revs do drop even with the clutch applied and the battery fails to charge and needs replacing, could it really be that simple ? i hope so

no worrys, well try it see what happens.hope all goes well :D fingers crossed it not the alternator :(

Battery's just about the last thing it could be. If there was enough charge in the battery to start the engine there's way more than enough to run it, unless the alternator has died _since you started up_ and you've driven for an hour or two. Dying under full throttle can be a symptom of weak spark generating circuit, which in turn can be due to HT leakage from cracked HT leads or several rather more expensive things.... If it was fuel line it would likely be worse at high revs in a low gear

you know or it could be that ^^^ lol

I'd think it's either fuel starvation, or bad or cooked plugs or HT leads.

If it just loses power and dies, most likely fuel starvation; try replacing the fuel filter before anything else.

If it runs like a bag of spanners at high revs, but is okay at low, HT electrics.
