I had it 13 days overdue in November! :eek: Declared it SORN on the website at 6pm to be sure then bought tax with the V5 the next day at 1pm during my lunch break. Didn't receive any fine.

Saying this, I may have been lucky - Please don't rely on my experience to justify not paying tax!

The earliest date you can apply is on or after the 15th day of the month in which your existing licence or SORN expires.

I spoke to a lady at the DVLA as i was going on hols till the middle of the month after it expires, and was going before i could pre reniew it, she said you'll be ok for a couple of week, reniewed on the 17th when i got back all ok:thumbup:
