Burnt valve in a 25K miles VW Polo..

Featured Replies

A friend at work has an 2001 Y plate VW Polo 1.4SE it only has 25K miles on the clock and it has just gone out of warranty... But she has been having problems with it for a while. The car has been back to the VW dealer 9 !! times for the same issue. ( the first 4/5 times while the warranty was still in force )

The issue is the car will run ok then after say 200 miles, when restarting the

emisions light comes on and the car has no power and runs really rough.

Sometimes the car can be restarted and it will run ok once more, other times it has to be recovered by the AA..

Dealer has diagnosed a burnt valve ( compression was below spec ). They VW dealer don't know what has caused this.. but either it is a manufacturing fault, or that cylinder has been running lean, causing the valve to burn.. ( my theories any way! ).. The Vw dealer has replaced, coil, plug leads, plugs

etc etc in a bid to fix this fault...

The problem now is that VW is saying that the car is out of warranty so,

they are only prepared to make a goodwill payment.

I think this is crap.. As the VW dealer is no more the wiser to the cause of this problem. Also as the problem started while the car was still under warranty then the VW dealer has not diagnosed the fault correctly...

I think VW should do the work to cure this issue without charge...

But I think it will be a bit of a fight .. :thumbdwn:

Cheers
