Windscreen question

Featured Replies

I've got the classic felicia leaking windscreen problem which we all know and loathe.

Passenger footwell becomes a mini lake upon rain.

:thumbdwn:

I've read all the forum threads on this problem and identify with them. I know it is a problem with the windscreen seal (nearside bottom corner). I have some black sealant .

Here's the stupid part. Can anyone breakdown in a couple of steps where&how to apply it?

I'd say I'm a competent "3 spanner" haynes repairer but I dont know where to apply under the seals and dont want a sticky sealant mess!

Its fair to say as a student, garage/autowindscreens aint an option on tight finances, but I cant continue to sloosh around in a wet car!

Cheers for any help

I don't know if there's a better guide than this old post:

Main thing seems to be that you put sealant both between seal and glass AND between seal and bodywork, which means you have to remove the plastic cover where the wiper arms are.

With an old and hardened rubber seal it can still be tricky to get a perfect sealing. But replacing a seal is probably best left to a glazier which means £££. I paid £60 for the seal+labour here in Sweden last year, would have thought that it was a little bit cheaper in the UK but in one of the posts the sum £90 was mentioned

An old knife will probably help you *carefully* lever back the seal to get your sealant between the seal and the glass and the metal. If you get the plastic cover off it's probably best to attempt to seal all the way along while it's off rather than just the one corner.

Heck - I got my windscreen replaced at my garage for £120! And they put a decent seal around it!

A new screen? Then it sounds like a bargain. Or £120 just for lifting the old one out, put on the new seal and put it back? Sounds more like robbery.

No brand new screen! My garage seems quite reasonably priced :)
