fabia stalling on tick over

Featured Replies

My fabia 1.4 8v has started playing up it stalls when on tick over & the engine light comes on ? .

it normaly resets itself after i leave the car for some time .

the next day the same thing happens when the car reaches normal temp???

today it stalled at a juncton after being run on motorway to work this time the engine light has stayed on when i came out to the car??

i had it serviced last week & the garage could not find any falt codes but did say the idel was eratic normal for the skoda???

i had a new engine temp sensor last year so don,t think it,s that the temp gadge is working fine???

it,s a 2002 skoda 1.4 mpi 8v

Lumpy tick over is normal, wouldn't say that erratic idle is though.

Had a similar problem with mine when I first got it, the garage told me they got the ecu reset and had to re-torx the engine. A bit of dealer waffle if you ask me, but that's the only answer they would give me, not been an issue since. Starts first time every time and never cut's out.

Hope that helps.

I had the same thing with mine, I replaced the temp sensor and it went away :-D

I have come across this fault before, and various tests found all was ok on the managment side of things.

The cause of cutting out was down to the inletmanifold gasket leaking. New gaskets fitted, and it was good as new.

ECU light coming on when the engine is warmed up and rough idling only when warmed up would indicate a faulty temperature sensor to me. They can go frequently. If you are getting an ECU light, there should be some error codes which would be easily diagnosed by a VAG dealer.

My car stalled once whilest idle. The idle revs were very irattic and i turned off the air con just when it was dropping. Aside from that never had such problems with my 1.4 8v. but now I don't turn the air con off.

Could be the EGR valve (if that engine has one)
