Intercooler water sprays

Featured Replies

Anyone fitted one of these to a Fabia TDi and what sort of gains would be seen from it as it has a teeny intercooler which must suffer from huge amounts of heat soak? Not sure which washer bottle comes as standard, or even if there is room to fit a bigger one.

Also, does having screen wash in the spray adversely affect the intercooler? Wouldn't want to cause any corrosion or other damage with my industrial strength Scania screen wash solution ;)

Not sure if TDIs suffer from heatsoak as much as petrol engines - certainly on a standard TDI I doubt the turbo would run all that hot, unless of course you were moving very fast for a long period of time, in which case airflow would probably do a sufficient job.

Diesel engines are also relatively efficient thermally, so radiated heat from the block would be less.

Either way, I suspect moving the intercooler would give greater benefits over adding a water spray...

but pd 150s have a bigger intercooler so there must be a benefit....

i would think water spray is a good idea unless you have a huge intercooler...

Surely the PD150 will run the turbo hotter? In which case the larger intercooler would make sense...?

Rob.

would assume nobody will fit a waterspary who has not remapped.... and given the growing number of k03/k03s faliures on remapped cars would think turbos would be similarly affected on diesels..... so anything which reduces temps underbonnet is good.

which reminds me where is my angle grinder.......need to see a man about some vents.

Chris, you probably have a small washer bottle. At a guess, one from a RS with Xenons would be a straight swap and a larger capacity. All you'd need then would be the pump for the headlamp washers (very powerful) and the autospeed kit. Should work just fine.

Actually Tavia the one your selling's website is fantastic and I learnt alot of it, the fact that you need to spray the intercooler before and after the turbo has cut in.

Look at the thread, next one down in performance (IC Water Mister), I think that has a picture guide as to how to fit it (OK it's to a Tavia but principle is the same).

Care to expand  ?

I doubt it on an open forum. Anyway, it is better coming from those who have "suffered".
