Koni STR.T or Koni Sport Kit

Featured Replies

Hi everyone :) Does anyone have any experience of the Koni STR.T suspension kit? I want to mod my Octy 1.8T but don't have masses of funds and these seem a reasonable price. I realise they're not adjustable, but they say they're set up the same as the Sport Kit on minimum setting. What kind of ride will this give? I'm not going track racing or anything, but do have a wife and baby to think about so it can't be too harsh. I would guess the minimum setting means the softest setting, which would still be harder than the standard shocks and springs? Any advice appreciated

why not keep the standard shocks? OR get standard vRS Suspension? Be cheaper and will give a firmer ride.

if you're looking to improve the handling, get the ARB's..

Much cheaper.

Cheers Angry Dog. I thought because the car has done nearly 50,000 miles it might be an idea to get the shocks done as well? I read that new springs (the Koni sports lowering springs) on existing shocks would work but then there's also a thousand posts that say may as well change shocks while the garage is doing the springs. Would a standard vRS suspension lower the Elegance then? And would you get the vRS shocks and then new springs, or literally just the whole vRS set-up transferred to the Elegance? Would it fit? And [pause for breath] roughly how much would the vRS kit cost? And [another pause] would you get ARBs front and rear, or just rear?

Cheers for any more advice :thumbup:

Hi mate,

Get both front and rear arb's.

get the dogbone mount poly bushed.

I think vRSDale is selling his vRS suspension and lowered springs so drop him a pm :)

Great, will do. So the vRS suspension should fit on mine no problem then?

I'll check it out.

should do - its the same layout of car!

The major suspension manufacturers only list one suspension number for all 1.8T Octavia's.

I would be careful and check with a few people / garages first!

I have an octy vRS and have spent a lot of time looking through the threads on this site trying to find the best suspension set-up for me. Looking through the data on here, people advise that the vRS has a different weight distribution (heavier nose I think) than the other cars. This meant that I had to hunt around for shocks and springs specific to the vRS. Consequently I would say that vRS shocks and springs might physically fit a non-vRS car, but the handling might be 'interesting'.

I'm sure a seasoned member of this site will reply to this and clarify.

(by the way, I eventually went for H&R springs specifically for a vRS and Koni FSD shocks again specifically for the vRS. Not fitted them yet, but should do in a week or so. Both are also available for other variants of the octy mk1.)

If the vRS is more nose heavy than the rest, that would account for my feeling that (from reports here) it understeers more than the likes of my Elegance, which is pretty go where it's pointed, and the Ambiante I had as a hire car, which was the same.

Another Hullite - welcome.

the Elegance has the same Engine if its a 1.8T therefore weights will be similar.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into because I'd been reading about different loads. Be a nightmare to have the suspension fitted and then find it was all wrong. I don't have a lot of money, and I also have a wife and baby boy to think about so I need to get it right first time. Don't want to make the car dangerous because I didn't do my research :thumbdwn:

Edit: Seems that the below post contradicts mine, even though Spax etc list one shocker for all 1.8T Skoda's in my catalogues..

The vrs uses a slightly different set up form all the other 1.8t in the skoda range.

Vrs uses AUDI s3 suspension which has different mounting points for the arb links. There was a member on here that had the vrs suspension on his car and was going to fit the front arb links to his,but found out that the diameter of the mounting holes on his front arb bar were smaller on the standard arb set up compared to the vrs.

I believe the vrs suspension bolts straight on if you use your original arb links and not the vrs ones.

It depends on how much you want to spend as what to do?

Try fitting rear arb and dogbone mount then if your still not happy change your suspension. These will make a big difference in the way the car handles.

I too have gone with H&R springs with my Koni FSD shocks. I currently have Eibach's which I don't rate for VRS, and since found out Eibachs are not really desgned for this car. Hope to get HR's in next few days been on order for over 3 weeks, so will fit soon.

Looking forward to getting mine fitted. At the moment my vRS handles like a clown car, bouncing all over the place!
