ex-Skoda owner--or returning owner?

Featured Replies

My old model Fabia 1.9 diesel ambiente was one of the nicest cars I have owned in 50 years of motoring. Compact, economical (always over 60mpg on long Motorway runs) - pulled our small caravan-fitted the garage-comfortable. Changed to Fabia 2 in October. I have just sold it back to the dealer at substantial loss, because I couldn't live with the much harder ride. 15"wheels, low profile 55 section tyres, and stiffer suspension to cope with higher body ( Factory told me that when I wrote to see if springs/dampers from another model would fit). I have been reluctantly (because I still rate Skoda as a marque) trying other makes to see if I can find something with a smooth ride. I have also posted on the Telegraph "Honest John" Forum, and while no-one confirms the Fabia's hard ride, many bemoan the fact that any attempt to select a larger diesel seems to up the Spec. to big alloys, skinny tyres and "sports" suspension. With our roads being never so patched and potholed, surely a soft suspension should be offered by someone? I have now tried an Octavia(having re-arranged my garage), and that is not bad, but someone who should know has suggested I look at the Roomster 2. However, after my experience with the Fabia, I worried that the suspension was the same, but am told that while the front is Fabia, the rear setup is Octavia. Is this correct, and will it be smooth?
