"Quality" Alloys: Recommendations?

Featured Replies

Dudes,

I've had replica RS6 alloys for the last two and a half years (from 'Wheelbase' in Oldham) and they're now looking pretty jaded/pitted, despite loads of waxing care etc. They're 17 x 7.5 with 215/40/17s.

Since I'm looking at replacing my tyres (@ £70 a corner), I'm thinking of getting a new wheel/tyre package fitted again. My question is, do certain manufacturers put a far better coating finish on their wheels than others? I'd rather spend £100 more if the laquer can take a few more 'hits' off stonechips and retains its finish for a year or so longer. My m8's got a 7 year-old Golf TDi Mk III and his OM wheels are in better nick than mine!

If anyone's got the lastest recommendations on the best places to buy from, as well as some pointers towards Manufacturers/Styles/Quality/Ease of clean etc. I'd be grateful.

Cheers in advance.

I would stick with OEM wheels from the VW group. They can be had new for good prices from VAGPARTS in Swindon.

If you do go aftermarket I would go for OZ or Compomotive.

HTH

Deffo go OEM

I picked up a set of Audi TT 17" alloys for £100 the other day.

Pretty much as new, just really dirty and need tyres!

Borbet (OEM for ??)

BBS (BMW & VAG fitted)

Compomotive (motorsport orientated)

OZ (motorsport orientate)

Revolution (motorsport orientated)

Ronal (Skoda Superb OEM)

I personally would never buy aftermarket wheels again from anybody who does not make OEM wheels for a decent car manufacturer, or make them for top level rallying.

Cheap wheels not only corrode quickly, but they are normally much heavier and weaker so flat spotting / buckling can be a big issue.

You get what you pay for with replicas I'm afraid...

OZ, BBS or Compomotive for me. Some of the VAG OEM wheels can be extraordinarily heavy, so bear this in mind with regards MPG etc.

Steve

Compomotive all the way, I have been to their factory and the wheel manufacturing process is just amazing. The wheels are drop forged wheels so are bloody strong.

Or O z, ROnal, bbs. any really

fox racing bk racing, and anything with racing in the title stay well clear of ;)

Okay, thanks lads.

I don't want to spend the Earth and I'm quite okay with a simple 5-Spoke replacement.

I'd appreciate it if the knowledgable amongst you could tell me if these are Furby-friendly, as far as offset/fitting etc. I'd probably ask my Skoda dealer to fit them and give me a tracking/alignment check at the same time.

OZ - If Your looking for an Oz Racing Hydra 17" Set Of 4 Wheels & Tyres Metal Silver Finish click here OZ Racing
