Octavia VRS Diesel Chipping

Featured Replies

Hi all

Tried searching for a thread with someone who has chipped their Octy diesels but couldnt find anything.

I'm thinking about swapping my Furby VRS in for a new shape Octavia VRS Diesel and was just curious if anyone has had their Diesel CRS Octy chipped? If so by how much and can you give me a heads up on how well it goes before/after? Superchips do a service that will take it up to 197bhp - by that rationale would the chipped diesel Octy be as quick as the petrol one?

Seems if you buy an Octy before the end of march you get £900 quid of extras chucked in too. 18" Zeniths a Jumbo box (? whats a jumbo box? Subwoofer? :D ) rear leccy windows and dual zone air con. Sounds like a good time to trade in...

Thanks in advance for replies.

The free upgrade offer has been going for quite a while now. The Jumbo Box is a centre armrest/cool box between the 2 front seats, along with the rear leccy windows, 2Zone climate control and 18" alloys it's a must have nowadays.

VRS195 has had his car superchipped and is very happy with it.

It's hard to compare a diesel and petrol head to head because the performance characteristics are different. Things like the lower diesel red line don't help matters from an oil burning perspective.

A remapped diesel would be quicker I reckon than a standard petrol VRs as they are both very similar as standard.

You may want to remove your other duplicate thread.

VRS195 has had his vRS TDI Superchipped and I believe REVO have recently made available their Remap of the PD 170 engine.

As to comparison of outputs here is a graph from the recent JKM rolling road day with 3 vRS TDI; one standard with Pipercross panel filter (djgritt), one with K&N 57i induction kit and V-Power/Millers (mine) and one with a Superchip remap (VRS195);-

I'm not going to start on that debate again; its a case of what you like and horses for courses. Ultimately the TFSI engine is more tunable and will give a greater increase in power/torque over the TDI; but its up to you.

Jumbo is a central console storage box/armrest between the front seats behind the handbrake, it is chilled (by the aircon) and has a 3.5mm jack plug socket for an mp3 player.

(Sorry for double post! Just noticed.)

Trust the above helps.

The issue with tuning the Vrs PD170 is that this car has a DPF which basically limits what you can do without destroying the DPF and throwing the car into limp mode. I dont think anyone has yet found a way to remove the DPF and hence the restriction.

The superchips map is very conservative as a result, same with Revo.

Would someone join this thread up with it's duplicate?

FYI the term 'chipped' is an old one in the VAG world, most reputable firms 'map' the software via the serial port and therefore modern terminology is 'remapping'.

Most of the diesel software available seems to be pretty reliable and the two metioned so far would be the ones I'd investigate further..........

Superchips

REVO

Sorry about the double post - I tried to delete the other post but couldn't find a button.

Excuse my ignorance (mechanically and technologicially) but what does the DPF do? Octavia booklet says Diesel Particulate Filter so I'm guessing it keeps crap in diesel fuel from entering the engine?

Again i'm a mechanical numpty - how does this DPF affect tuning.

Thanks again for your help!

Oh and thanks for that power graph showing the different cars - even my simple brain understood that!

Cheers!

Not quite right.

The DPF is part of the exhaust along with the catalytic converter. It filters the carbon particles created by incomplete combustion from the exhaust to clean it up. You therefore do not get the traditional 'soot' from the exhaust.

So then where does this soot go to if it is being filtered. So do we have to change the DPF often? Any idea guys?

It gets caught in the DPF and periodically purged and burnt off.

The tell-tale for this is when tickover is increased to 1,000-1,100rpm (normally 750-800rpm) and the engine sounds slightly rough for a few minutes. It happens to me one every couple of months after being in congested city traffic. Daily motorway running generally negates it.

What about the clutch though. Know a few boys with mapped diesels and the clutch has soon started slipping due to the increase in torque.

It's early days for the TDi maps to be showing clutch issues but as an indicator I know of a circa 280 hp 350lbft TFSi that doesn't yet have clutch issues.

Depends if the car is driven around like a loon all he time. If the map is done correctly and the torque progressively mapped then, possibly, a remap will actually let your clutch live longer....

Long time no post!

Just caught up with this thread - thanks for the information all.

Check out these links (the search function does work, but try either the term "tuning" etc or a manufacturer eg Revo, SuperChips, the forum even has specific links to some suppliers via the forum contents page).

BRISKODA Partners - BRISKODA - The Skoda Forum and Community

I believe there may even be a GB (group buy) being organised to save money on one of the suppliers.

PS - the upgrade I have takes it to 204 BHP (207 PS) and Revo offer a 214 BHP map.

No probs with DPF.

Don't discount people like Performance Torque, Will provides an excellent service and his map is so much smoother and progressive than the Revo'd Leon PD140 I had a play with at my local SEAT dealer (albeit that was last year).

Several people have had vRS TDi's mapped by him and they are extremely happy, and they have an extra £175 in their back pocket compared to some other software.

I have some graphs for the slug somewhere, but I am in the CI at the moment so can't post them up. iirc it was somewhere around 400nm and 179bhp but a lovely progressive curve

The higher prices for say SuperChips does include a matching engine warranty (up to the 3 years OEM, or 12 months whichever is the greater).

Also I got a single map 10% disc, a GB on SeatCupra.net got 15%

The 2k rpm step is gone awell as running all the way to 4.5k rpm
