Featured Replies

Okay, so I bought this off Clarey... cheers fella

I read Manny's most helpfull instructions and managed to get this far without too much effort

But this 8mm bolt is not shifting one bit...

My 8mm allen key extension is starting to bur the edges of the bolt so I don't want to keep wearing it away. It says 8mm on it but I've got a horrible feeling that it's a bit small.

Any suggestions ?

I can only think off putting it back together and driving to Happy Halfords to buy another 8mm and also a 9mm allen key just in case ?

I know what you mean about that bolt, its quiet tight and access is tricky. I used a kind of reverse socket thing connected to the standard extension and ratchet.

Fitting is easy, you want to try removing it

I used an ordinary 8mm allen key, inserting the "long end" into the bolt head. Then use a piece of pipe or something over the short end of the allen key to get some leverage.

It takes quite a bit to "crack" the bolt, but then you can undo it with fingers.

Then theres the fun part of putting it back in, i could have sworn that hole shrunk once it has been removed

Good Luck

Phil.

Okay... this is turning into a big saga and i'm getting embarassed...

24100_0132.jpg

With a cut down handle from a set of garden cutter thingys and a new Homebase allen key + a useless Halfords thingy, I manage to crack the 8mm bolt off... cool I think, that's the hard work done... er...no !

There's still this unmoveable little metal black pipe thingy in the way...

24100_0135.jpg

and I can't get the TIP anywhere near the TURBO ?

24100_0136.jpg

Am I doing something stupid

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

With the bolt removed, ease the pipe away gently from the engine. The TIP should fit, its a tight fit.

Yep, I think you are attacking the wrong bolt :D I had no problem getting mine off.

That tarmac looks a bit suspect, would you be interested in an estimate to repair or replace said Tarmac perchance. :D

Manny, its too tight... the pipe only moves up and down not in and out...

John, put me out of my misery, what have I effed up ?

Is there a different bolt I should have removed to get the black metal pipe away from the turbo ?

The one in the pic above holds a black metal wotsit which has a small wire hanging off it...

This is embarassing, I'm :ashamed:

Des,

I have had it analysed with a Falling Weight Deflectometer and carried out a design life analysis projected over the next 20 years within expected wear parameters... all is well...

but thanks for the offer

Nope... but if you know one... I'll quite happily employ him to fit this bl**dy pipe !

Where are you based?

Pete,

Looks like the right bolt to me, as already stated its a bit tight but does fit.

I placed the TIP bolt (5mm one) in the TIP first then lowered into position, and feel for the bolt to locate near its hole on the turbo housing, its probably closer than you think.

The black coolant pipe doesn't move alot with the bolt removed, it certainly wont move completely out of the way, but just enough.

Edit: I also assembled the rubber pipe onto the TIP before installiing it, it wll be easier to get the metal retaining ring/clip back on. Remember to get it the right way around too.

Keep us updated.

with a scraped and bruised pair of these...

24100_0006.jpg

i've done it !

24100_0004.jpg

I've done Haynes manual 5 spanner jobs that were easier than that... no word of a lie !

Off for a drive

I'm sure it's worth the scraped and bruised hands. :D

I thought scraped and bruised hands were all part of the process.

Ah yes, forgot to tell you.....it wont go on, until your hands are cut/bleeding/bruised and you have sworn at the thing atleast 500 times:D
