New Owner

Featured Replies

Hi all - I'm an unexpected owner of a Skoda I have to say (2006 2.0TDi L&K). Did a private part-ex as my last car (Volvo) no longer required (due to company car) and I didn't want to keep losing money watching it depreciate as our 2nd car loaded with all the crap kids and dogs bring, not on such a new/nice car anyway. So I still have 'a nice car' and a pocket full of cash (for my motorbike, shhhh, don't tell the wife)

First impressions favourable - engine good, goes well, good build quality, well equiped in L&K trim.

However I can't get past the "its a Skoda" feeling.........

Have used forums before on Smart car and found them great place for info and chatting - I will fire away my first few questions in next day or so I'm sure!!!

Hello and welcome. Don’t worry, the odd feeling will pass and you will soon feel pretty good about being a Skud owner.

Do you really build Astons?

Welcome from another Briskoda newbie. I'm a Vauxhall owner planning to be a Skoda owner in the not-too-distant future. Mention you're planning to buy a Fabia and you get offered the gift of licquorice to replace the fan belt etc etc, thanks to the latest Fabia advert.

It's not a Skoda in the old sense of the word, it's a shrewd spender's VW. Who wants to pay over the odds for a VW, when you can get a better built (fewer faults, better reliability, better dealers if you believe JD Power survey) for less money.

We haven't heard of Skodas that roll away...........lots of Vauxhall Vectras and Signums are subject to a recall due to a handbrake fault. We haven't heard of Skodas spontaneously bursting into flames or having their bonnets fly up as they're being driven along.

Look at it like that and the badge becomes a badge of honour!

I already KNOW its the sensible VW alternative, but still a hurdle to get over. My son is mortified, my wife thinks its only just better than a Vauxhall, I'm glad I didn't get the poverty spec version:O

I used to build Astons - left for pastures new

Welcome.
