Change my car

Featured Replies

Well coming up to 4 yrs (and 65K) of Octy vRS ownership and I've got the itch to change, the thing is I love my Octy as it has performed faultlessly and in some ways I am loath to change it as it ticks all the boxes (fairly quick, carries 4 in comfort, copes with numerous trips to B+Q etc). The thing is I think I have fallen in love with Alfa Romeo's GT and its causing me some problems. Do I stick with my reliable vRS, do I follow my heart and go for the Alfa, or should I simply get a mk2 vRS.

Opinions are welcome (no Alfa bashing please)

I think the alfa GT is one of the best looking cars around, and are supposed to be a good drive (I haven't tried one) whether its reliable or not, i couldn't say... I now have a fiat (alfa use the same JTD engines) and they used to have a bad reliability record, but mine has done at least as well as my fabia vrs did so far, and if it makes it past 40k without needing a new gearbox (as the fabia did) It will have done better (33k and counting!) ...

my opinion? go with your heart, and enjoy the alfa! if it falls apart, go buy a mark II vRS ;)

Suppose it depends on your circumstances i.e. how often do you have to carry 4 in comfort and how often do you do trips to B&Q...

If I didn't have a kid, large dog, need to do trips to the tip etc... then yes I'd have something like the Alfa GT ( :yummy:) on the drive, but as I do have those listed needs/wants then for me the MKII VRS is about as good as it gets....

Have you driven the MKII yet ? So much better than the MKI :)

Yep, go for some test drives - that will (hopefully) make the decision process easier :)

Can't say I was overly impressed with the GT TBH, compared to other Alfas I've driven/been in. But you're the only one who'll know if it's right for you

I drove the mk2 vRS when it first appeared, handling, power delivery and interior are a huge improvement over the Mk1, and the mk1 was good to start with(especially when you factor in price) Its just that the Alfa is just sooooooooo beautiful and whilst not as practical as the Octy its just sooooooo beautiful.

Did I mention that its sooooo beautiful :o

I have a test drive in tomorrow so I will let you know how I get on.
