Emulsified oil on filler cap

Featured Replies

Hi all,

In checking the oil level today on the vRS (TFSi), I noticed a small amount of emulsified oil around the top of the oil filler cap. Car isn't often driven long distance, so wonder whether this is common, as the moisture doesnt get chance to evaporate, or whether it indicates an underlying head gasket problem.

Anyone else seen a similar thing?

Guess I should just blast it every now and then (its the wifes car)

Get out on a good road and leather it

It'll keep recuring if you only drive short distances. Tell your wife to find a fancy man in aberdeen, problem solved !!!!:D

I will tell her to boot it down the road when she leaves mine in a hurry then shall I?

I get similar on mine, if it has a few day's of doing short runs etc.... Not a sign if its had a decent blast down the Motorway, just a feature of the engine. First time I found it like you I thought I'd gone and bought a car with head gasket issues !!!

if you are using the car for short runs, breather pipes will eventually become clogged with it, and a sticky substance blocking oilways in the cylinder head will occurr.

Thanks Guys.

Sounds like I need to take control of the car regularly and clear it through ;-)

Would also be worth changing the oil more often.

Certainly not an issue by the sounds of it (happened to mine a couple of times when left for a couple of days). Keep an eye on it though.

It is not a case of leathering it - you need to get it hot for a reasonable period of time 1-2 hours every few weeks to get all the water out of the oil. Dries the exhaust out as well.

My daughter's Corsa does this, 3 1/2 years old and done 7k! Also gets the oil changed twice as often as Vauxhall recommend.

Has happened to mine too.
