Fabia vRS front bumper removal experience

Featured Replies

I removed the front bumper on my wife's Fabia vRS ('04) this morning, in order to replace a broken driver's side fog lamp.

The Forge "how to" which I found on this site was invaluable, but there are two points I found that can be varied.

One: You don't need to jack the car up and remove the whole engine tray. You can remove the front torx screws (3 each side) at the front, and the 3 plastic grommet things along the front, without jacking the car up. This is enough to allow the bumper to come free, once you have removed the 4 torx in each wheelarch, and the 2 between the headlights.

Two: if you have headlight washers, these have to be disconnected from the bumper assembly first. Just unclip the washer cover, which is very easy once the jet is raised either by pulling it, or (messier) getting someone to squirt them and grab them while they're up! Then loosen, don't remove completely, the 2 torx screws either side of the jets. This allows the bumper assembly to come off the washers, leaving the washer jet assembly attached to the metal bumper part which remains on the car. When you refit the bumper, just make sure that the horizontal part of the bumper fits over the flat part of the washer jet assembly, but beneath the screw heads, and then just tighten the screws down again.

All this would be great, except that my wife bought the replacement foglight, I didn't check to make sure it was the right one, and when the bumper was on the floor, it turned out she'd bought the one for the other side.

Ho hum!:D

An easier way is to ease the bumper forward and disconnect the pipe from underneath. There is a small horseshoe shaped clip which pulls out and the pipe comes off. Usefull to have a bucket handy though.

Thanks Stu, but surely if you just disconnect the pipe, the washer jets are still fixed both to the car and to the bumper, and something is going to break when you pull the bumper forward? Ah, (edits post!) I think I understand! You disconnect the washer jet unit from the car by unclipping it so that it comes forward with the plastic bumper, still attached?

The washer jets aren't fixed to the car only the bumper.

Disconnect the hose and the jets stay in the bumper.

I found out how to remove my bumper yesterday to do my lights, easy job!

And no, you dont need the undertray off at all.

On my wife's car, when I unscrewed the washer jet by loosening the 2 x torx visible though the hole in the top of the bumper, and removed the bumper, the washer jets remained fixed to the car, albeit only by clips. It was quite easy to do, really.

2/ Remove the T25 Torx screws from the wheelarch to front bumper fixings. 4 screws under each wheelarch.

3/ Remove the 4 x T25 screws from the underside of the bumper. 2 each side of the vehicle.

4/ Press in the centres of the 3 x plastic trim clips at the bottom front edge of the bumper. Then prize away the outer using a flat screwdriver or a trim pry tool. Retrieve the centres once the bumper has been completely removed.

5/ Open the bonnet completely and prop open. Remove the 2 x T30 Torx screws from the top of the bumper edge. (Note: - if the vehicle has headlight washers then the caps must be unclipped and the 2x T15 torx screws loosened only, the bumper cover will be removed as normal but the headlight washer jets will remain on the crash bar)

6/ Now pull outwards both side fixings of the bumper.

7/ The bumper cover can now be pulled forward and the fog light and ambient temp sensor plugs can be disconnected. The complete bumper can now be removed from the vehicle.

Only because im bored lol

Edited number one as its no use.

Good work Joe!
