I am looking to change my DVD player to a DVD recorder with a HDMI connector. The trouble is, my Samsung HDTV has got only 1x HDMI input and I will soon be running 3 HDMI outputs (SKYHD, Freecom media centre and DVD recorder). I also have the audio running through my Yamaha surrond system which only has 2 optical inputs.

My dilema is, do I get a new surround system that has 3 optical inputs and get a HDMI switching box that had 3 HDMI inputs. Or do I get an amp which does the lot? I dont want to spend a fortune either so please dont suggest a £1000 amp. I have listed below the av equipment I'm running at present and what I need.

Skyhd doesnt do surround over HDMI, only 2 channel stereo. I would just get the switchbox and pass the sound through your current amp.

what other inputs does your TV have?

on a 32" I would be surprised if you could see a diff between HDMI and Component so using that might be an option?

Looked at the Sony 910. My tv has got 1xHDMI, 1xComponent, 1Xs-video. I currently use the HDMI for SkyHD, the component for the DVD player and the s-video for the media box. The s-video picture is terrible though!! I have ordered a lead for the media box to convert the DVi output to HDMI and with me gettin the new DVD recorder , hence needing more HDMI inputs

Hello mate.... do not know your budget or how old your current amp is, but a good and farely

future proof (if there is such a thing) solution would be to take a look at Onkyo's latest range

of amplifier/receivers. They have 2-3 HDMI inputs + 1 output, all reviews regard the range

very highly recommended, would save a lot of cable and switching box woes. As I say, don't

know what your budget is but it would overcome your tv's lack of inputs (hdmi) as it has for

me. They also (further up the range) handle true hd sound, for future use should you get any

AV gear that outputs it!

I know you said don't suggest 1k amps, these are way less:thumbup:
