P666vrs?

Featured Replies

I've seen P666VRS for sale on a forecourt near me, its a yellow octavia and looks quite good, I'm seriously tempted by it however a couple of points put me off.

1. It has wolfrace wheels rather than the standard skoda ones

2. I think it had an aftermarket exhaust, although I'm not sure (I was sneaking around the car at gone 9pm last night lol)

3. there's a nasty 'turbo' badge on the rear below the VRS badging, I think its from a Vauxhall?

The car looks relitively good other than those things but it is a little bit more than I'd be paying for a private sale, the offset of that is I can hopefully PX what I'm driving now and there's also the added bonus of a warranty.

However, the additions listed are worrying me. The wheels are of a similar design to the standard ones but are a bit cheaper looking and the exhaust/badging (especially the badging) suggests to me that its probably had a hard life. But on the other hand it has a nice private plate and looks straight with no parking dings.

Does anyone know anything about this car? Has it been in the club at all?

thanks in advance.

Darren.

personally i probably wouldn't touch it as what you've mentioned there gives me the impression it'll of been driven badly its whole life. and sounds like your not sure so yourself. (never buy a car your not 100% happy with) but it maybe worthwhile checking out the service history etc.

This MAY be the car you're looking at - apologies to all concerned if it isn't!

Yeah thats the one at Stoneacre in Scunthorpe. I don't like the sound of the "running problems" nor the fact that the last owner only kept it for 4 months :thumbdwn: I think I'll be keeping my 306 for a little while longer before trading for an octavia.

Thanks for the help people

Car is fine now, and had some fair old money spent on it at Stoneacre....I know because SWMBO works there.

Last owner could afford to run it anymore so plumped for a Grande Punto Multijet...

If you are not sure, go there during the day and speak to a salesman, hear it tick and see if you can test drive it.

Very good point that roo.

If you do ask for Matt, sales manager, he is about the only switched on one there!

Worth a look-see, if nowt else!

Plus i know where the money has been spent too so i know whats true and what isnt if you do happen to get a tosserish salesman!

Thanks I've just put my car up for sale and I'll be looking for an octy soon *fingers crossed*

Not the only one with eyes on this. Just got back from a lunch break talking to Graham at Stoneacre. Not knowing what the toggle switch on the dash was all about I was put off immediately and now I know its something to do with the turbo who there would be able to instruct me on using it right? Red toggle and a black button...can't be too hard...

My previous TDi was written off recently by someone pulling out a junction and the Mk I RS is now in my price range. I think my hunt continues for something closer to factory standard though. Good luck on your own search Darren. Sounds like you are in the same area so I'm feeling a bit of competition for finding that Octy now :). Just called a place out Doncaster way but they sold theirs already.

lol I'm sure there's enough to go round, you've got a head start on me anyway I have to arrange a loan and sell my currrent drive first.

Good luck with your search.

Alfie, what had been changed on the car? Other than wheels/exhaust(?) and badges? I think it had a clifford alarm too didn't it? The switch, did you ever find out what it was? Do you know if it has any performance upgrades at all?

Not knowing what the toggle switch on the dash was all about I was put off immediately

What is it then, any ideas ????

Lets see now... yup, Clifford alarm (they have spare key and spare alarm fob btw which are always handy to have to rob the battery from). The blank dash button used for the heated leather seat option has been drilled to insert a blue LED to show the alarm is active I think.

Guy had to go ask the technicians what the toggle was and came back to say it is a turbo timer used to allow the turbo to cool off.

Clock was showing approx 53K, looking in the boot (got to love the space these things have) the left brace had the paint flaked off and the metal beneath oxidized. Sales man admitted that the parking sensors don't work. Something I discovered going wrong with my TDi and happened here is the front electric windows when told to close would close but on hitting the top of the door frame re-open about a 1/3 and you would have to press and hold the button a second time to get the windows up. Stereo, can't remember what it was but it isn't OEM.

Inside is clean that I noticed but the ashtray was catching on something when trying to open. Carpeting was scuffed in the drivers footwell but given the colour of the carpet I imagine you can have it either scuffed or worn though with constantly cleaning it.

The manual folder appears to have some information on the work done, one was a Halfords receipt and the service book has collected a number of stamps from main dealer. Had a look for the belt service, think I noticed one of the services including this but I wasn't interested at this point. I wasn't too confident in what I was being told about the turbo timer or supporting it if it developed a fault.

Sure someone will get some enjoyment from this car but alloys, badge and the new dash decorations aren't to my taste, plus I would prefer to find one in silver. I'm off back to look on Auto Trader and see if I can get over my phobia of private buys.

EDIT: Salesman didn't seem to think there were any performance modifications but there is a link further up in this thread that lets you know some of the cars history in post 3.

Yeah but did you expect it to be standard knowing the history of it on here!?

There are things they dont know about (salesman), as they havent been told....You either want a standard car or a modded one?!

Oh and it has had a full cambelt change....100%.

Yeah but did you expect it to be standard knowing the history of it on here!?

Only learned the history afterwards. Took a look in my lunch break and was then curious if it was known to people here. Darren got in first opening up a thread.

And you're absolutely right, salesman can only tell as much as he knows about any vehicle. My last car could have been a taxicab, paranoid mind lead me to think it was at one point with a stain on the rear seat, ball point jammed down the air vent and and unidentified disconnected power lead coming from under the dash that had a sticky spot where some thing was once stuck with adhesive. Longer the car had been in my possession though the less I cared about the unknowns and appreciated what I had. Reliable car that saw me up and down the M1 daily with boot space to transport servers and printers or get me and the missus up to Lake District with the camping equipment. Bloke what sold me it didn't know or wasn't volunteering the information and in the end it didn't matter.

Never managed to factor the significance of the Mike and the Mechanics tape left in the glove box into my delusions. :)

HAHHAHA!

People can afford to shop around this day in age!

looks like this has now sold it came past me traveling in the opposite direction into my village the other night with a youngish looking couple in it, looked very smart as it did too and I must admit there was a pang of envy as it came past :thumbdwn:

Hi all,

As you can see from my avatar the car was previously mine, few points i thought i would make:

1 - the red toggle switch was what worked the parking sensors, hence them not working for the salesman

2 - the turbo timer was built in with the clifford alarm, as it was the top alarm clifford do, and you had to push a combination of the fob buttons to get it to work

3 - no the wheels arent to everyones taste but they were ours

4 - the car wasnt drove badly, we just had a bad experience with a revo trial done in good faith at the harewood house festival last year and consequently paid the price as we couldnt fix it so got rid

5 - it did have a full exhaust on including sports cat

It was a good car and as long as the ecu has been sorted it will be for someone else

Thanks Chris & Nicola

P.S If the new owner comes on here then you may wish to contact myself as i never told the dealer the number for the blackjax, which i had personalised so nobody else knows it

Quite commical that, seen as though originally they traded in a punto against the octy then have traded back?

What work has stoneacre done on the car do you know? my reason for asking is we tried alsorts to fix the car including multiple dealers all of which couldnt find the problem, hence us getting rid

Dunno mate, but the lad thas has it now has spent some serious £ on it.

FMIC etc....

The blank dash button used for the heated leather seat option has been drilled to insert a blue LED to show the alarm is active I think.

The blue led light was supplied by clifford and we chose to have it put there as it would make the car less appealing to thiefs

Guy had to go ask the technicians what the toggle was and came back to say it is a turbo timer used to allow the turbo to cool off.

Toggle was to turn on parking sensors

Sales man admitted that the parking sensors don't work.

They do they just need turning on

Something I discovered going wrong with my TDi and happened here is the front electric windows when told to close would close but on hitting the top of the door frame re-open about a 1/3 and you would have to press and hold the button a second time to get the windows up.

Usually just dirt in the window, a good clean always sorted this type of problem for us

Stereo, can't remember what it was but it isn't OEM.

Not standard as we prefer not to keep them

Inside is clean that I noticed but the ashtray was catching on something when trying to open.

Ashtray should have had parking sensor box in it, was never used as an ashtray

Sure someone will get some enjoyment from this car but alloys, badge and the new dash decorations aren't to my taste, plus I would prefer to find one in silver.

Fair enough, each to their own

Salesman didn't seem to think there were any performance modifications but there is a link further up in this thread that lets you know some of the cars history in post 3.

When sold the only performance mods it had was the exhaust, everything else had been removed

Some of the points answered

Dunno mate, but the lad thas has it now has spent some serious £ on it.

FMIC etc....

Good, i hope he enjoys it, do you know whereabouts it lives now then?

What is it then, any ideas ????

it was simply to turn on the parking sensors, nothing dangerous

I was thinking ejector seat :D

I was thinking ejector seat :D

Lol, i like that

if anyone was wondering just how easy a life this car has had the previous owner to us (who owned it from new) was a 71yr old bloke, then a nice family couple (who we met) then us

after that the young lad with the punto who only had it 4month as mentioned

Yeah a place near me called Gunness.

He works for ATS tyres.
