A sticky for sticking stuff??

Featured Replies

Got a couple of items I need to stick around my indicators (don't ask).Been advised need a couple of dabs of silicon sealant/adhesive to ensure they don't come off.

Searched on here.Never seen so many threads about a variety of things people want to stick on their car and which adhesive is appropriate.Badges, lettering, spoilers, tax discs etc etc.More cofused than ever on what should be a simple thing.Wondered if there is already a definitive guide

Anyway,is their a difference between silicone adhesive/sealant?

I'm off to get something from Halfords (although they only have black sealant.Hope thats right!)

Cheers

silicone sealant and adhesive are the same thing generally.

you can get them in different grades like mold and live stock proof etc but what ever you can get your hands on will be fine

As mattbeef indicated, there are different types of sealant for different jobs, for example some are not designed to be waterproof if it's exposed in an area that's likely to be constantly wet. My knowledge is more DIY based so the idea is to get the right one for the job. If water ingress might lead to rust (rather than a label dropping off), it'd of course be worth making sure to buy the correct sealant/fixative. EvoStick Impact adhesive (spirit glue?) might be a possible alternative, depending on what you're trying to fix together (i.e. what material to what, likely stress etc).

I'd have thought it was a bit optimistic trying to hold a spoiler on with any sort of sticky stuff TBH, just based on shelf-loading, bracket placement engineering-type logistics, but they do use that expanding foam cement stuff to hold replacement double glazing windows into houses so who knows? Meaning I don't, maybe there are special ones for car things. Cars ain't my forte, needless to say. :D

sealant will have minimal grip, but easily removable.

If there is any sort of force "pulling" at the items then sealant will be no good.

If you go to a window fitters you should be able to get the exterior grade sealant, but be warned the methanoic acid in it can damage surfaces.

Sikaflex 221

I have some bodyshop grade double sided for many of my sticking jobs. :) For smaller things, texflex/PUflex works really well.

Sikaflex  Thats all you need :D
