Just a thought - has anyone run a vRS on standard wheels with 205/50 x 16 covers?

What is the reason for wanting to change? I have just done exactly the opposite and moved to slightly lower profile - from 205/45/ to 215/40 - partly because I hope they might give better grip, but largely because a set was over £40 cheaper.

I thought 16" worked out at a '45' sidewall?

It does. I think the fella's asking about fitting higher-profile tyres. I toyed with it but didn't bother in the end because I reckoned it would make enough of a difference to the wheel circumference to make the speedo UNDER-READ when the tyres were new (i.e. not worn at all)

Lower profiles will make the speedo under read by about 2.5% ... i think. Larger sidewalls will make it over read (is that correct? :confused::o). It might also have the effect of reducing acceleration as it will be changing the gearing, but in reality i'm not sure how much difference it will actually make.

I suppose the biggest advantage will be that the ride will be improved as stated in the link posted above.

Taller profile tyres would also count as a modification and would have to be declared to your insurance. Don't forget that if you have an accident whether it's your fault or not the insurance will try and wiggle out of it any way they can. One of the first things they will look at, if not the first will be the tyres.

I was thinking about handling, funnily enough! I realise that the overall diameter will increase slightly, tending to roll faster at the price of acceleration, but given the state of most UK 'B road' tarmac, I suspect that everyday handling would probably improve by going for a 50 profile on a 16" rim, rather than dropping to 40 on 17"? All very well, I agree, for circuits, tarmac rally or (dare I say) posing, but going quick across country in a road car - being honest?! Just wondered if anyone had tried it. As for the modification aspect, surely it would be the same as going up to 17's etc, since (AFAIK) these aren't listed as a manufacturer variant/option anywhere? As I said, just a thought...
